Goood morning, hatchers.
We got some snow yesterday, so fears of a Maine brown Christmas are now over. However, you don't have a shovel a brown Christmas. I've got to get out there at some point today and shovel out the chickens. My snowblower broke during the last storm but thankfully this one wasn't a big storm so shoveling it won't be bad.
The person who is getting my excess ducks has had a bunch of excuses for not picking them up including my favorite that ducklings in the same litter should be together at least 2 weeks prior to separating them, so she read. If she doesn't come today as promised, I guess I'll advertise them. I'm starting to really get attached to them. The yellow ones are the most personable, I was told they are probably pekins or harlequin mixes by the woman I got the eggs from. I was only planning on keeping one of those, but I love the way they impishly look at me. Also if I get my face too close to the brooder they get all excited and try to stick their duck beaks through the wire to get at me, and not in a crazy, psychotic way. Oh well, wouldn't be a bad thing if I had 5 ducks, right?
I've got to build a duckling waterer today. They're splashing and drinking their bowl of water so quickly and with the pellet stove going out there the bowl dries out quickly. Last night I was replacing the water every hour until I fell asleep. When I got up this morning it was bone dry.
