4/17/12 Hatch buddy anyone?

Not only am I excited for tomarrow, but I finaly got another broody hen!!!!!! Came home from dinner and my lil Black Australorp (sp?) Ebony was laying in a nest box on three eggs, one real and two fake. Took the real one, thinking about giving her some turkey eggs. Or going to pick up some Black Copper Maran eggs, I really want some of those I love the dark color of their eggs.
Well I will not be sleepng for the nest few nights. Good luck to everyone on their hatches these next few days.

Ooooh, I want turkeys! lol And Black Cooper Marans! I bought 2 chicks this spring, and they both died.

Cocci. Also, my 6 splash Silkie eggs I had shipped and put under a broody were 0 for 6. So I'm bumming! My 3 little eggs I have incubating are doing great! I had never candled before, and didn't realize all the moving around they do! So cool to watch, I think I candle about every other evening! lol So since I'm 2 days behind you guys, I'm feeling very impatient hearing you talk about lockdown, so........dang it! I just couldn't help myself! I got 4 new little chicks to tide me over.



These are actually chicks from my eggs. I gave my sister 30 eggs to hatch out for her preschool class, and 25 hatched. I limited myself to 4 of the chicks. Hubby is thrilled I didn't take all 25!

Good luck over the next few days with the hatching! I can't wait to see pics!!! My lockdown is Monday......

Cream legbar!!!!!! Awesome! I would LOVE some cream legbar chicks! Here in the states they are very hard to find. I was looking them up the other day and gave up when I saw that they were 60 dollars a day old chick!

It's ok though, seeing everybody's pics of their newly hatched chicks will just get me more excited for my own

$60 for a day old! Wow. I'm in the UK so I guess they are slightly more common here. I was quoted £6 for a day old but the small breeder I went to had a disastrous hatch so I got some hatching eggs for £1 each instead. Now i just have to wait and see what, if anything, I get. Hoping for a roo to go with my 3 CLB mature ladies. Some more layers would be good too but a roo means I can make my own.

Ha! Mudballs, that's so cute! That would be a great picture! My silkies don't even know what rain is yet, it will be quite an experience when it does rain

Well those of us that set on the 17th, our lock down was yesterday. So you should lock down today!!!!!!

My eggs are a rockin and a rollin, I candled before lock down yesterday and had to remove 6 more so I am down to 15 eggs from starting with 30. I hope I get a good hatch, if I do this will be my first hatch. The first time I tried my humidity was to high and my babies drowned.

So I went with lower humidity this time, about 35% for the first 18 days and now it is at 70%. Hope that is ok?!

Mygreenkitty, Those are some really cute silkies. At first I did not like Silkies very much, but now I want some of my own. I think my girls would love them. I found a lady selling some on Craigslist for $12 a day old, asked her if she would bargain with me if I bought 5 she said she would put it at $10 a chick then. I am not sure if I can get my self to spend that on day old chicks. I do not have show chickens nore do I want them. I just want a beautiful flock of egg layers to show off to all my visitors.

Wow, my husband and I though I was bad enough driving an hour or two away for 4 free chickens once and I didn't even know what breeds they were at that point. I could not imagine driving 2 states away! Good for you though!

Today is only day 19 for me and I was totally expecting to wake up to at least some pips...... But no! Please, Please let this hatch go well for me and all of you!
