4 A.M Rooster crowing, REALLY???

Have you tried putting a luminated clock in the coop so they can see just how early it is?

I don't hear my adult roo's crow since their coop is far away from the house, but my two cockerels are located closer and they both start up around 4 AM. Last night at 2 AM, while DH and I were watching TV, one of them crowed twice and then all was quiet. DH swears that this particular cockerel is crowing in his sleep.

Roosters will crow at any time of the day or night. Often their crow is a warning sound. An owl might've flown overhead, maybe a raccoon walked by, who knows, but they are just doing their job. If mine wakes me up at midnight crowing, I often get up, go out and check out what is going on.

To all those who say "I hate roosters and their crowing" I say, why keep the chickens? Do you hate dogs cause they are barking?

Some of those dogs bark all night can you or your other neighboor do darn thing about it?

Rooster crow is one of the sounds of music of nature and if you do not like it you should live on 56 floor in places like NYC or Chicago.

I guarantee you can not hear roosters crow there.

I used to keep some Guinea hens, they are noisy like heck, much worse than any rooster. My neighboor's wife complained about their noise, and my wife who is very "sensitive" to wishes and whims of all losers of this world butchered my guineas.

So I got myself bunch of bantam chickens 2 years ago, total I had was about 60. about 20 of my bantams roosters and my big rooster leader of my flock crow day and night non stop.

I love it, and if anybody does not that's too bad!

(I live in AR1 zone) Horses and small animals allowed. Horses dissapeared cause nobody can feed them now.

I do not miss horses neither horsflies which came and went with them, but my roosters are still CROOOOOOWING.

Oh, I love the sound of them crowing. I also love the sound of my boys wrestling and laughing. But NEITHER of those is super fun at 4 a.m., ya know? I am going with the illuminated alarm clock, followed up with a sclding if it doesn't work. The head in the baggie will be a last resort as these two boys are awfully good roosters and they aren't even a year old yet. they watch the flock, find treats, service their girls.........and crow at 4 a.m....LOLOLOL!

I must be deaf... or my old rooster doesn't crow anymore. I like the sound of crowing, but only occasionally get to hear him.

Now when I was in highschool, I had a different rooster that was much younger. He would usually wait for 6 am or so to crow, that is unless he heard me coming up the drive and closing the car door at 2am. He crowed any time he heard a car.

That would not work, they will crow when they hear a noise even if it is dark.

Well today is a day of sorrow.I had to rehome my 4 month old EE roo. I can't keep roos in this city. I knew that, but at 4 days old.who knewThe co op. told me they were sexed as pulletes.The only good thing is it was my vet who took him.he has 25 hens and no roos.He has a farm with many ac.Plus he said he would never kill him. I can visit anytime.and get updates .Its quite a relief to not worry about my roo being sunday dinner.His 3 girls that were left behind seem a little bewildered tonight.Looking for him all around the yard.I wish him well.He was a good pal.
