4 legged chick - updated w/ pics 6/28 on page 7

Marans are a French bird, but the English took some and made their own as well at some point. True French Marans have feathered legs/feet. English-style Marans (like most from hatcheries) have clean legs/feet. So, if Quattro is a Marans, he is just French-style, which is generally more desirable, I believe.

You have to tell us how this turns out!! Fascinating. I hope he survives.

I think it will do fine, but I would get it amputated because the chick could die from infection or from the extra body parts taking away too much of its nutrition. Plus, if I was a chicken, I'd rather not be a cool, but awkward (I'm saying this kindly) freak.

He is tooo cute! I would say he was a double yoker too!! That is awesome! I hope he makes!!

Oh my, he's a cute little guy! Sure hope he makes it! I watched a show once about a fully functional six-legged chicken, and it was fine as an adult, but I've never heard of one having two vents. That's something new.

No Way! Don't amputate. It shouldn't get infection unless it gets a wound that isn't taken care of. The double vent think is just awsome. I wonder what other double organs it has. Does it poop out of both vents at the same time? Very interesting. I would love to keep track of how this turns out. I really hope he makes it too.

You said it is doing fine so it just may make it. I sure hope so.

I saw a special about this once. The farmers decided to leave the limb where it was because it didn't effect the animal at all.

I bet it didn't have any problem learning to balance with having built in props. This chick is so cool. I still say call Ripley's.
