Chirping
Last night we noticed that our flock (7 girls) had symptoms of fowl pox. This afternoon one of my Golden Sex Links was falling asleep every 2 seconds be it mid walk, scratching, or standing still. She would not eat, but I did get her to drink some water by getting my finger wet and waking her up to drink from my finger. We gave her a dropper size of nutridench, and that seemed to slightly help, but not continuously. Her poop is normal looking, her crop was empty, her tail feathers are upright, her feathers are clean and she groomed in front of me, we checked for lice and mites and found no evidence of eggs or critters on her vent, her comb and wattle are just coming in, but they are the red they were before and not limp. after about an hour I gave her electrolytes In her water and she voluntarily drank several times. But she kept still falling asleep standing up, walking around, mid scratching. We chose to isolate her tonight, and she did not like that idea at all. She did eat vigorously when I put her food into the isolation run. Can fowl pox cause this? None of the other girls show this reaction. Someone, not her, had bright yellow poop severals times today, and I am still trying to rule out who, but we added corrid to their water just in case.
we are doing a fecal float test tomorrow to find out why the yellow poop, but it is not her. Does anyone have thoughts as to why she is so suddenly sleepy?
my location- I am in northern CA. We had a huge heat wave this weekend, so all the girls came into a run we made in the garage where we had multiple fans going and could control the temp much better. (It was 110 outside and 82 in the garage). It is very smokey outside due to the number of fires around us (I am between Sacramento and Vacaville). it was super windy today and pleasant, but not so hot to merit extra fans and such, at least from what I saw of their behavior. No panting. Could it be due to heat? Her wings were never open today to cool herself, and she didn’t look leaner nor puffier than normal. Just slower and lethargic all through the afternoon.
they eat grower crumble and had one boiled egg today between all 7 girls. No other treats, and no treats over the past two days (treats consist of either a boiled egg, frozen watermelon or frozen blueberries, only once a day if that, and separated by days).
no one is laying yet.
they free range for an hour in the evening and are fascinated with my veggie garden, including my tomato plants. I have seen some grab leaves before I could stop them, but I can not say if they have actually consumed leaf pieces and no one has these symptoms but her. Any advice??
thanks,
