I hatched a few BYM hatching eggs and ended up with three pea-combed chicks. While all 3 of my single-combed chicks ended up visibly male, only one pea-combed chick so far has shown any comb development. However, while the 3 cockerels constantly size off and challenge each other, I’ve never seen that behavior from chick #2, the pea-combed suspected male.

These babies pictured are 4 weeks old now, and are easter egger mixes. The first image (black with white dot) is my female pullet for sure, #1.

The second image (black) is the chick in question, #2. Both have peacombs, but #2, has considerably more comb by now, as well as having a pinker hue than #1’s yellower comb.

The last 2 photos show both chicks and their respective profiles.

It’s very early to make any solid guesses, but for those of you who have raised pea-combed chicks, what do you think?

From what I understand, which is minimal, cockerels with pea-combs will tend to have wider combs as well them being redder. I only hatched one chick with a pea-comb so it took a bit of time to be certain. The second chick's comb does seem to be wider and redder than the first.
