4 Week old Cochin w/ huge crop...impacted???

Of course you add the head shaking and the throwing up the nasty stuff...I am pretty sure its impacted. Anyways, again thank you for your concern, it helps me feel stronger to know others are out there voting for her to make it also!!!
 
hi. I am currently sitting with one of my girls wrapped in a towel on my chest. i just did the surgery for impacted/sour crop. i thought she had cleared things the other day but found her very ill this morning. i had had her and another who seem fine still on a liquid diet with only water with apple cider vinegar, kale broth, some yogurt and applesauce....not all at once. i did the olive oil and massage thing too. they puked some. i thought they were clear but not so. today did the surgery, i have watched lots of minor surgeries and even a few major ones but nothing prepares you for it. my girl certainly felt it all so if you have something you could give her for pain i would recommend it. all the best.

Hey, it was really hard, but I knew the alternative was that I was going to lose her to doing nothing. My girl is about a year old. Currently she is bright. Standing in the box. Drinking some water. I have kale broth cooking at the moment for her. For pain relief the only thing I can think is some asprin before hand or a topical pain reliever. My girl has preened herself and has laid an egg since the surgery this morning. I think it is so hard to go through because you hate to cause the pain. I understand she might still not make it from the surgery, but I will feel better knowing I did something to help. Keep trying the massaging and liquid diet. Maybe she will still pass it on her own.
 
Did you find the video someone posted recently showing the surgery? It's icky but very interesting and to me it's helpful to see how it's done! As for topicals..although VERY temporary, maybe just before the incision is made...hold a piece of ice on the area??? I know that's what some people did before piercing ears back when I was a teenager!
