400 chickens STOLEN!

I feel sorry for this lady. Maybe we could send her some money. Do you think that would help? or replace the chickens?

I don't really worry about human predators yet; however, I do have locks on both of the gates to my run and also the drop-down access to eggs/nests. I keep the key right beside the lock. I figure that if a raccoon can take the key, put it in the lock, and unlock the lock, he's entitled to a chicken.
BTW, I bought four locks together at Home Depot, and every key will fit any of the locks. The set of four locks/keys cost about $15.

how dispicable! im so glad that didnt happen to me because i would have heard them and id go out there and start throwing a few death blows!im a black belt in karate and trust me i would not waste that!

I know times are tough and jobs are scarce, but if these jerks directed even half of the energy and deliberateness they just used in a legitimate direction, they wouldn't need to steal. It must be the thrill combined with a lack of home-training.

Were there crop circles in the area? Could be extra-terrestrial?

That's what folks out here say when odd stuff like that happens....
Sad. Can't believe there wasn't a noise!! 400 squaking chickens. How long would it have taken to load them up?
Hugs

PS_ how are your coop plans coming??

I was actually thinking the same thing. I'd be looking for ANY KIND of evidence.

This really disturbs me. I was already very uncomfortable thinking about where we all may be headed with the current economic situation and this seems but a small indicator of what is to come. It's quite frightning! I think perhaps those of us who have the skills and knowhow to supply food for our families will be targets more and more as time goes on. It's sobering.

That is the first thing that went through my mind. I mean, who else knew she had just bought 400 chickens and would have the means to come and steal them that quietly and quickly? I'm betting the whole deal was a scam. Check out whoever sold the 400 chickens to her in the first place. I'm also betting they have 400 "new" chickens to sell again.

How did she find them in the first place? Have her check them out. I'm willing to bet they are behind this.

Sad to be so mistrustful towards business people, but I'm glad I'm not the only one to think this way. It was just too smooth to not be someone professional with poultry. Makes me wonder how many times these birds have been bought and sold...

I'd rather think it was a shady business deal than that the world is going that far wrong. Gas is comiing down but we're approaching the holidays, so we all need to be more careful and aware. But not fearful. It's a fine line, but there are a lot of good people in the world. We just hear about the bad ones more often!
