Ok....the first time I set 36 and hatched 12....all lived 5 cockerals and 7 pullets. I think about 12 were not fertile and the power went off in a snow/ice storm for 4/5 hours. Second time I set 41 and 9 hatched and 7 lived. I turned off the heat in the house and went to Texas. Came home and the house was freezing! Incubator had a rough time keeping up. 7 eggs were not fertile and I opened another dozen (after I gave up on day 25) and found several that were lost late and another few that might have made in (maybe) by day 28-30? It was starting to stink, so I pulled the plug.

I am hopeful that the third time is the charm! No more cold weather or ice/snow storms and I expect about 30 this time!

Seems that my Barred Rock are the best hatchers...have five of those and another 5 that either are Java or mostly Java....a mix of chicks out of sex-link hens (who knows what they are?)

GOOD LUCK ON ROUND 3.Im on my 2nd round and trying the dry hatch method.1st hatch 6/18...

Hello again! I'm on round III too and just a few days ahead of you. We set ours on Friday the 1st. We have 17 eggs of different breeds that were shipped that I'm hatching out for a friend to start a flock, and then I filled the incubator with 7 more of my eggs that had been sitting in the refrigerator for a couple of days... but I couldn't leave empty spots in the incubator so I thought it would be worth a try! I think maybe my humidity has been too high since I had a chick hatch with an unabsorbed yolk this last time around and I've been having a lot of fully developed chicks not hatch (now I'm thinking that maybe they drowned?), so I'm keeping it at 40% for the first 18 day of this hatch. We're probably going to candle on Sunday and I'll let you know how its going!

Great to see you again here rsf!

I had some wide ranging temps last time...went to walmart and bought a $1.89 aqarium tank thermomitor and I hope to keep things a bit more stable this time. Wanting a huge hatch this time.

Sold 5 cockerals from my first hatch....kept 7 pullets.

Two green eggs in this batch, have not had one green egg hatch yet!

sorry....I put 39 yesterday at 8am. Added number 40 this morning at 7am and will put one more in today at 1pm.

seems to be a much better plan this time!

Well I put them in at 8am on the 5th....yesterday (the 25) day 20, I had 27 hatch....two more have pipped, but are not moving fast.

I was using an LG still-air and used a fish tank thermomitor and kept if over 100 at all times. I also had it laying down in the turner, not on top....27 out of 41 on day 20? How crazy is that?

Very proud pappa today!

looks like two more are going to hatch, but one might be "iffy" that would get me to 28 or 29 out of 41 and it is only day 21 now!

#28 was a bit shrink-wrapped and #29 never made it.

The neighbor came down and bought 12 of them.....so 16 in the brooder and 12 eggs still in the bator and I am guessing we are done....thrilled with 28 of 41!

not having the power go out and not turning the heat off and letting the inside the house temp go under 60 sure helps!

Raised the temp with the still-air as well!
