The pics are awesome..can't wait to see pics of them hatching. The egg cartons are interesting way to hatch..aren't they meant to lay down on their sides? My lockdown is tomorrow so I am interested in how to place the eggs for hatching...

thanks for the compliment on the pics.

and to answer your question on standing the eggs in an egg carton or laying them down i could not tell you the best way to do it I have been told by many to lay them down and then I have been told to put them in egg cartons and stand them up this will be my first hatch so I am trying them standing up I hope every thing goes good for your hatch Oh and by the way the pics where taken with a cell phone

if you cut those egg cartons yourself, you did a fantastic job! i thought they were egg holders that you had bought! i think i'm gonna hatch from egg cartons (for the 1st time)....i've been researching. and i almost have a full bator, AND my 3 sets of eggs were set during 3 different consecutive days....so they're all going into lockdown on the same day, and i think the egg cartons will be the way to go with this hatch. keep us posted on how the hatching goes! with pics!!

Are those styrofoam egg cartons that they are in? Do you punch holes in the bottom for air circulation? I tried to use cardboard ones and that was a disaster. I read somewhere that you aren't supposed to use styrofoam cartons.

that is Styrofoam and i did cut the bottoms out I was told my many to use Styrofoam the rezone you should not use cardboard is because when they are hatching the cardboard will pull moisture from the egg causing the egg to dry out to fast.

why was it a disaster? this will be my first hatch and was told since i incubated them on there end it would be best to hatch them on end

Just like you said, it pulled moisture. The carboard carton actually ended up getting wet and was a mess. It was really hard to regulate humidity. I would definetly use styrofoam over cardboard anyday. Good luck! Can't wait to see your babies:)
