4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

We get all kinds of entertainment from our birds and people who drive by. At the prison xmas party, a couple of people came up to ask about the birds in the yard. One came up and was shifting his eyes around trying to ask a question. I was like, "okay, what's this guy going to ask?!" Well, he wanted to know what happened to my lamb, lol. He's like "I go past there and I was seeing a goat for awhile, but I haven't seen it for awhile." Considering that he's a preacher, I wasn't quite sure how to respond, but I was half intoxicated and just blurted out "oh, he's in the freezer now, and he's pretty darned good too!" Ah well, he took it pretty well, lol.

George also gets all kinds of stuff posted on his facebook page. Yesterday somebody posted something like "I love driving by to see what new things show up in your yard!" I told them that the next thing would be an emu, lol. :D They probably think I'm being completely serious. Of course, I'm only HALF joking, because I'd LOVE to have some emus! Even my sister scans his page once in awhile to see what new posts people leave about our lawn ornaments. She brings it up every time she sees G, saying "I get so much entertainment out of your facebook page, all of the comments about 'what was that white thing in the yard' or 'do you have CHICKENS in your yard?!'"

It is funny though, because G is the major there, and he's pretty laid back and definitely NOT the type you'd expect to find raising birds, lol. The inmates enjoy mowing the lawn though, they're always admiring the birds. The prison used to raise chickens, but they quit awhile back, so many of them have never really seen chickens and especially turkeys. Of course, those are the guys that are from Philly and areas like that, lol.

I'm almost afraid to ask why you have inmates from the prison mowing your yard.

My new hova bator genesis just arrived, and it looks amazing. I can not wait to start hatching!

I'm also just now realizing that next week is finals week, hopefully I'll be able to keep up with you guys.

ORGANIZERS ~ I am Praying that all notices are updated on the main page of this as I cannot keep up!
But thinking, threads time out as far as updating...so do you have an actual ARTICLE (not just contests) that the info is in?
I just want to make sure I am doing this correct and dont want to miss anything!

Sorry I just cant follow so much and I am lost and I check it several times a day.

Shelshanam - That is a beautiful picture in your Avatar!

Thank you! I love seeing that from my front deck each morning, and from many places on my property I catch sight of it while taking care of the animals.

Here is the info on it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_McLoughlin

I also have a great view of most of the southern Cascades but McLouglin stands out.

You're gonna love it!

Pretty much no fuss/no worries. I'm on my second incubation with mine and I think it took all of 30 minutes to be up to temp. I didn't add my back up temp/humidity gauge to this hatch as my incubator is going to be pretty full as I have 15 turkey eggs in it currently and hoping to get a dozen chicken eggs next week in (or more). But my last hatch the genesis gauge and my little gauge were in perfect sync.

Good luck :)

Bwahaha! We live at the prison. He's major there, so he kind of has to be close. If something goes wrong, he has to be on call 24/7, so living on grounds is easiest. Of course, they're remodeling this house and we are going to be putting an offer in on a new house that's still close, but will be our own. 4 acres of grass and no inmates to mow the lawn... I'm suspecting that'll be enough of an excuse to turn a lot of it into a garden and such, lol.
