4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

WHAT?! They won't let you off? You must not have told them that it was for as important of a reason as putting eggs in the incubator, lol.

I know right? Lolol my coworkers already get a lot of entertainment out of listening to my chicken stories. I think I'm the Crazy Chicken Lady in the office. Every time I have a hatch, I bring in videos of it, with me and my husband cheering in the background.

I dont think you'll be disqualified Shelshanam. People have been setting as close to 12pm as possible, so not everyone is doing is exactly on the dot. I know I won't be able to set until 6pm because I can't get time off of work.

Don't worry you aren't alone. I'll be working 24 hrs on the 11th so I will have to set them around 6 am before I leave for work. They will hatch on the 31st/1st and I work the 31st so I won't even see what hatches until around 9am when I get home.

OK thanks for the clarification on sign up, it really was that simple (so know we all know who over thinks everything :)

Also, it just crossed my mind that since we are all setting these eggs to hatch at the same time, the birds will all grow up and then it will be fun as a followup to see which ones (breeds, individuals w/in breeds etc) start laying when! Since I'm new to BYC I don't know, is that something that has been done in the past? Kinda a followup to the NYD Hatchalong Layer contest sort of thing, or not nec. a contest but just the fun of seeing the egg laying results roll in months later...

Thanks all... I took a picture of my eggs when they arrived, took a picture of the eggs from outside incubator, but guess I need to open the lid and do an official picture as well now (which of course is now a day later). Or just wait and take an official picture when I add the chicken eggs.

As long as you don't remove any you will be fine waiting.

Nope just adding as many chicken eggs as those lazy layers will give me before the 11th!

I have a love/hate relationships with my hens. I purchased them from a feed store and they have their own agenda on how things will go around here and right now their agenda is no eggs till next year!. I've got their replacements up and coming (they don't know that yet and lets keep it our little secret), but I've got 24 Production Red/RIR pullets who are now 8 weeks old and 3 little Roos. Next year I'm pretty sure I will have a slightly better winter layer (I'm probably kidding myself).
