Worrying about a temp spike in the bator?

My net was out for most of yesterday so I just skipped 30+ pages

I managed to get more eggs set Tuesday evening. I had a box arrive earlier than expected so I unpacked them & sat them on top of the bator to warm up before setting them around 8pm. I'm supposed to have quail coming from the swap to set for tomorrow but they still haven't arrived & Jim hasn't managed to snag a tracking number from my swap partner. Since we dropped well below 30F here the past 2 nights I don't have much hope left for the poor little things unless they are coming from the South. I do have a couple eggs from my own quail I can set if they don't arrive, but the max will be 6. I have 2 eggs sitting here & only 2 little girls laying out of 4 at the moment. If they both give me eggs today & tomorrow that will be 6 to set.

Certainly!

How fun! I actually have thought about bringing my one laying cochin inside to see if it would make her go broody. Then I can just give her the eggs I set. I doubt it would work though, especially since she just started laying, but it was worth a thought. lol

She might, you never know. My girl went broody several months ago. First she hatched me out 4 Violet Guinea Keets (however, she kicked one out of the nest and it died), after that happened I had to take the rest away from her. Then somehow 7 duck eggs got under her??

On a sad note. We lost one of our chickens this morning. It was my four year old's pullet.

Aw, I am so sorry! Do you have any idea what caused it?

BTW...my kid sister is pregnant....I asked her whether she was going with unisex monkeys or rubber duckies for the nursery....she said "Duck, Duck, Moose!"

Ooh, I love the Icelandics. Sadly I'm a lazy chicken keeper and I know Mary wants to keep them pure and I'm a "let em all loose and do what chickens do", so I've restricted myself to admiring from afar.

I think you've all convinced me. I shall. I'll let everyone know when I decide on a contest and such. : ) *walks away shaking head...what have I gotten myself into?! I cannot allow myself to be taken in by Cute little brown call ducky eyes!*

Ummm... can you northern folk please take back you cold weather? 30 degrees does not make me a happy camper. Just sayin. And i was born n raised in northeast ohio... southern livin has spoiled me
