4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

I'm not doing the contests for several reasons, but I would hope what some of you are expecting doesn't happen, and that people here have enough integrity to make it fun and simply guess, rather than the alternative.

In other news, this is our monthly forecast for here. It's all below freezing at night but if it stays in the 20s I'll be very happy for our chickens. They did okay at 14 degrees I guess, but I could tell they weren't exactly thrilled with it. I'm trying not to pay attention to the record lows.

I have 2 live birds being sent today and 2 on Monday. They'll be very well packed up with heatpacks and each other for warmth (and they're not traveling very far) but I worry about those ones. They're all over 5 months (they're not day-olds). After that I won't be ordering any more hatching eggs or chickens until at least Spring.

I tried calling the PO and couldn't get an answer. Ah well, it should be here today anyways. I'm keeping an eye out on the packages I've sent (one was shipped back to me, but I think I sent it to her now ex-husband's place, so that was my fault) and just crossing my fingers that everybody gets what I sent in one piece and in time that the eggs don't get too old for hatching. I sent out nothing older than 3 days old, but golly, that's a long time to sit in the mail! I wish the hens were laying better, then I could've sent nothing over 2 days.

One of the duck eggs is P I P P E D !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can hear chirping coming from the little egglets. Now back to stare at momma chicken and plead with the ducklings to hurry up and hatch already! I've been waiting almost a month for this day...yeah!!

What color should RIR chicks be? Best answer was yellow to brown for Red ones, white would probably be a White chicken. Never mind, turns out the Dad was an EE, so there will be muffs and beards and if a pullet may lay a green egg.

Brechin posted a wild looking thing with graphs and charts that will probably win the best invention prize. IDK people really like things made with ducct tape too so please keep posting your inventions. See post 2475
Jessiey is adding more eggs to his incubator. The one egg looked way lonely..and sad.....

. Ronott you crack me up!!!

Also, update on the Brinsea: I got it up and running with all 11 of my eggs snuggled inside!

Same eggs that I posted in the pic thread. Mods please don't count these twice! Man I have no idea what I'd do with 22 birds on less than 1 acre of land.
