4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Sally: I'm not sure exactly how many...6? out of 50.

Here is the worst one, the bumps are hard, even though they look wet in the second pic. Candling shows what I think is a detached air cell and no veining No eggtopsy yet.:

thank you for posting this picture. As soon as I saw it i remebered yesterday seeing an egg with three spots like this. Its not developing so im throwing it out.

Good Morning everyone.

What's going on inside our chicken eggs- Day 6:

Sixth day -- beginning of beak

These pictures you are posting are amazing. I have hatched a long time, never knew when the beak started. Thank you. :)

I'm not having much luck around here. After a few days with no duck eggs, I walk into the room late morning (boyfriend let them out this morning) and find a dead duck hen. :( There was a duck egg in their nest though. I just don't know what happened. Nobody acted weird yesterday, no marks on her, vent looks fine. :( I just replaced my drake last month (someone intentionally ran my drake over), and now I lose a hennie? These guys are this springs hatch, hatched myself, which makes it sadder.
Sorry about your duck.

Here's my entry for the egg art contest. I'm not very artistic.

Chicken on a nest TRYING to lay an egg for NYDH......LOL

Cute!

NotAFarm...loving your rooster in your avatar! Gorgeous!

deel...that looks pretty artistic to me! Very cute!

I've only ever lost one bird that was "unexplained" until a few days later (the sheep grabbed it and shook it like a dog does with a toy). So, an unexplained death is driving me nuts. I'm waiting for G to come home to burry her (I can't dig a hole with a flat shovel!) We do have eggs in the incubator that should hatch though, so I have some of the previous drake's progeny in there, and I should have some of her eggs in there as well.

I have some eggs that I think may be weeping, but am not sure. I always assumed weeping was wet seepage coming from the egg. I have more than one egg with what looked like wet beading on the shell, when I took them out of the bator, they pass the sniff test and the 'beading' was white and hard, more like calcification. Any input will be welcome.

Any discharge from the egg after it has been laid has, in my experience, led to a bad egg. Occasionally my hens lay eggs with small raised bumps on the shell.
