4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

so I am waiting to enter the decorated egg contest...is the page up yet? and do we HAVE to use markers? if so I need to go buy some...inquiring minds want to know!!!!:D
Here's my entry for the egg art contest. I'm not very artistic.that is so cute! Chicken on a nest TRYING to lay an egg for NYDH......LOL Im so sorry betta!
I'm not having much luck around here. After a few days with no duck eggs, I walk into the room late morning (boyfriend let them out this morning) and find a dead duck hen. :( There was a duck egg in their nest though. I just don't know what happened. Nobody acted weird yesterday, no marks on her, vent looks fine. :( I just replaced my drake last month (someone intentionally ran my drake over), and now I lose a hennie? These guys are this springs hatch, hatched myself, which makes it sadder.

Oh my gosh, I can't have ducks, I can't have ducks, I can't have ducks, I can't have ducks

Congratulations!!!

LOL, MarineCorpsFarmer, I think an Emu would scare me way too much to even think about hatching one (in fact that weird nightmare I had last week was of hatching Emu instead of Seramas, no? LOL)

I candled again tonight. Some of my Serama eggs are pretty opaque but tonight I think I see some veins in this one... that would make 4 eggs that are developing! If I got 4 chicks out of this, I'd be so happy!

Now THAT would be quite the accident. My husband lusts after Emus, but they are verboten here. He just lives vicariously by reading about other peoples emus. Then they hiss, hide their eggs or knock peoples teeth out and he wants them less...
Do I need to be removed from the list of NYD Haychers? I got my eggs in earlier than expected, so I set them early. They are due to hatch the 30th. I have been to busy to keep up with the thread anyway.
NO, as long as you posted them on the egg link, you are good, you are just not eligible for first chick.

IF ANYONE HAS NOT FILLED THAT OUT PLEASE DO SO . Ohterwise the maths are insane.

I'M double-checking on the markers. I'm guessing yes because they bothered to put it in, but as you know, some things have been wrong. I will note it on the first post if other things are acceptable.
Thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/730324/nyd-contest-9-egg-art-contest will be on contest pace in 2 shakes of a lambs tail. ( OK maybe 3)

Well. I finally gave the duck hen a better look, and her vent WASN'T alright. That egg sitting in my flat is almost definitely the culprit. It doesn't have blood on it, but her vent was inside out, though only minimally. Considering that she was in good health (besides being dead), I have to assume that this little egg did her in. I'll be setting it myself, to give it the best chance at life. Now I feel bad. I was upset that the girls were giving me a strike. She gave her egg but died in the process of fullfilling my request. :(
Glad you found out what it was, sounds like you might have a mean nutty neighbor, running down your drake like that! I'm so sorry!

Yikes! No, I'm an animal nut, but no, nothing that I can't wrestle to the ground! LOL

Thanks to whomever it was who posted the list of names of who had registered their eggs. I had filled out that form a long time ago (seems like weeks, but we haven't been at this that long). My name wasn't on it, so I went back and reregistered. I am trusting that the picture of my eggs and clock which I posted on another thread got posted.

I candled two eggs last night - they were both growing, but I thought their air cells were a little small. Then I realized that I was a couple days premature. On Tuesday, Day 7, I'll do the official candling. I always trace around the air pocket with pencil, so I can compare the size of the air cell on days 7, 14, and 18.

This hatch is truly a lesson in patience!

Okay - Something is messed up in the world of chickens at my house. We live in Northern Minnesota; its cold and snow-covered right now. Why am I getting eggs from my Silkies and my turkey, but nothing from my Icelandics, Welsummers, Orps, or Polish. I am getting a few from my laying pen to go with the Silkies and turkey. All except the Icelandics, get some supplemental lighting.

This is the first year we've had a turkey. Only one survived to adulthood and she has decided that the middle of December is a great time to start laying eggs. Snippy, of course, did not lay them in the coop, but instead in the covered tunnel they have to get to their run. No wonder she is always squatting when I go in to feed and water them. I was thinking she wasn't feeling well. Silly me. So for those of you who know, do turkey eggs taste different than chicken eggs? We have no Tom, so these are not fertile, so it makes sense to eat them.
