Can't wait for more pictures!I currently use paper towels in the bottom of the tray, since they sure are messy little buggers when they hatch. I figured cardboard could just be tossed with each hatch. I like the idea of reusable though... Do you have any suggestions for free or very cheap lining that won't cause splay leg in just hatched chicks? It's harder for me to clean the galvanized steel and wood, and I'm afraid I'm going to ruin it in the long run if it's washed every few days. :/
No problem! Now THAT is a good swap. : )Honestly, I don't remember. I'd have to look through that crazy WYGS to see who I had claimed them from, lol. I figure I have until spring to figure it out!
Well, it's confirmed. Red has got to go. Nine infertile out of 15. Only six of my eggs are developing and the temp wasn't the culprit. I am extremely unhappy with Red and chances are he's going to be dog food. No one is going to take a mean roo that doesn't do his job. Unless someone has another idea as to what is going on with him. I've had fantastic hatch rates in the past with him as the covering roo.
Quote: They are a very calm breed, ours are louder than the dewlap toulouse, but not loud all day. They love to talk to me when we come out with feed, hay, treats. We dont show yet, maybe in 2013 now that hubby is retired.
Quote: rubber shelf liner is the best thing in hatching trays. When done take outside, shake out loose crude. then put in a bucket with hot water a cap full of bleach and dish soap. Let soak over night, scrub by hand under running water and air dry.
the plastic baskets from produce work well as hatching trays also. as do the drawer organizing baskets in Targets dollar area.
Quote: cheese cloth is doable as well as tossable after use
Quote: And she lives in Florida.....all the "soil" I've seen in Florida is sandy and not dirt that turns to mud with a single drop of water like here....maybe that helps....they are beautiful!!![]()

We are actually on an island and our base is solid rock with rich orange grove soil so we get VERY muddy here with rains. We dont do photos when they chose to live like pigs LOL.
