they are like potato chips everyone needs a few

they are softer than any duck or chicken or other goose. Their down is prized as the best quality available, and it can live harvested for pillows.
Well that answers my question; and adds them to The List! And this time when DH says "why" I can say, you know all those feather pillows from your Great-grandma that you love soooo much, well...
(The live harvested point being important b/c he claims to hate the taste of goose, problem solved.)
; > AH HA, Got 'em !!

Not the best quality pictures (taken with my phone today) but these are some of our other geese.

Dewlap Toulouse (buff and grey) camera is re-charged so will take better ones soon

and with that..good night all

Well, I got home today and saw I had a package!! A few weeks back I won a bid on rarebreedauctions.com for 10 Olandsk Dwarf hatching eggs. This is what started the whole hatching thing btw... But I waited over a week just to hear that they are not laying right now. OK, no problem. I can be patient. I waited with mumch anticipation and excited for the news that there would be eggs. So Monday they are shipped to me *Finally* and I got them today.

Well I am less than pleased with the packaging. They were in a box within a box which is all fine and good. Lots of brown paper between the boxes, thats nice. But INSIDE the egg box........the eggs were wrapped with stiff brown paper with some eggs right next to each other. There were a scant amount of packing peanuts throughout this maze of eggs and one looooong sheet of this stiff brown paper. However, the packing peanuts were those corn starch kindm that biodegrades when wet. The eggs were cold and then they warmed up at some point while in the box so I had to scrape off packing peanuts from the eggs and HOPE that I wouldn't bust up an egg doing it. To top it off, I have an egg with a giant crack in the side. Guess I have to break out the wax. :(

On a more positive note! My FIRST EVER HATCH is now officially in lock down! These are the Trader Joe eggs and the 5 little Basque eggs that went with them to test my tech device. I am very excited yet apprehensive. I hope they come out OK and I don't make some awful rookie mistake and cost the other chicks their lives!! SERENITY NOW!!!

Well thanks for letting me air my grievances. It IS that time of year right?
