4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

I candled, and out of the three that made it, one died. That leaves me with only 2 out of 14 eggs.

I hope at least one hatches

I am not sure that you got another answer that you like, because I haven't caught up yet!! Imagine that! I use the kitchen liner. I find mine at the dollar store. Works great during hatching, and, after in the brooder. I couldn't find a pic of some in a bator, I know I have one somewhere..but, you get the idea..I just line the sides, leave the middle out because the water is in that area. I just throw this out when done.
I throw mine (from the brooder) into the washing machine. ETA: not from brooder! Ewwww! From Hatcher! After shaking any poo and what not off.

The kids and I candled tonight...

Out of 45 eggs...
1 - was tossed a few days ago due to a crack I must have missed when I set them
9 - look empty to me, but I'm leaving them in for a few more days just to be sure.
5 - I just can't tell yet... Too dark.
17 - have goods veining, but I didn't see any movement yet
13 - have great veining and definite movement!!

My own eggs are faring the best with 77.7% of them definitely developing right now
The eggs from MrHeinz are close behind with 73.4% of them definitely developing. (please, please, please give me an Ameraucana rooster to replace Roscoe!!!)
My mystery swap eggs are not doing so hot, with only 41.6% developing...
(I made it into a math problem for my kids... My 11 year old is a math wiz! He just ate it up!!!)

Yes, you do!!

they are like potato chips everyone needs a few
Amen
they are softer than any duck or chicken or other goose. Their down is prized as the best quality available, and it can live harvested for pillows.
Now I know what to do with all the long, soft, white feathers that are everywhere.....
Not the best quality pictures (taken with my phone today) but these are some of our other geese.

Dewlap Toulouse (buff and grey) camera is re-charged so will take better ones soon

and with that..good night all

Those geese are gorgeous.

so you don't need a pond, you can just keep them happy with kiddie pools?

VERY in-ter-es-ting!
My waterfowl do not have a pond...just a kiddie pool.

Finger's and toes crossed!!

I candled this morning and took out 27 chicken eggs, 2 ducks, and 2 or 3 quail eggs. Not sure how many eggs I have left in the incubator? 120 or something like that. The duckling still hasn't hatched....hopefully in the morning! Good night all!

Are those Buff Orpington ducklings? I've used Shelf Liner and it works great! Never thought about using it in the 'bator....good idea!
