4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

I throw mine (from the brooder) into the washing machine.

Those are Welsh Harlequin ducks. :) Chicks? It's been too long for me to remember, got the photo from my old folder..probably hatched them a couple of years ago. I only did one hatch of ducks..for fun.

Also did three turkeys..was given some kind of turkey..wild? From a guy that brought me some fertile eggs, and threw those in..they were sooo funny to watch after having hatched. Their bellies were so big with the yolk, they had a hard time staying right side up for a couple of hrs..had to watch them. Pretty cute sounds too.

So, I've been sick all day, still managed to clean up the dining room, oil the table, and start pulling out the Christmas linens.

We found one of our Rouen hens dead this morning. No blood, no vent issues, just looked like she never woke up. She looked peaceful, for which I'm thankful!

My daughter got on a train tonight, she is COMING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS!!! YIppee! She lives in California, going through a very upsetting divorce, but she decided to come get some mommy time! I get to pick her up on Thursday night, it will be a great Christmas!!

I am sorry for all of you who have had egg loss. I will, if I'm not shaky, candle tomorrow.
Keep the snow, for another week, then it can come.

Sally, you crack me up, I'd like to party with you!
Celtics, you are a really good advertiser! WE ALL want them now!!!!
Fluffy, I love my ducks, and I love yours, too!

MrHeinz and crew, you are all doing an amazing job! Keep up the great work, we really appreciate you!

Off to bed, I still have so much to do before the big kids get home for the holidays!

No problem! Now THAT is a good swap. : )

I bet it was babymakers6.

I candled tonight and the eggs that went to omletteville had a fair few bloodrings think the spill crunched a lot of the babes. Some of everything else is developing. The only thing I could not see in was the f2 olive eggers. The marans coating over the blue shell defeated m 400 lumes. I did see something in 1 but could not tell in the others.

I'm not sure what happened between the day before yesterday and today...but things aren't looking promising in my bator this evening. Temps are fine (no, I don't need a new thermometer

), humidity is fine. For whatever reason (unnamed amount) are not going to be hatched chicklets. Sad night...but I'm hopeful about the (unnamed amount) that are still viable.

All 7 of my eggs are doing well. The Nankin has a little eyeball floating around. The other eggs are a lot larger being they are barn yard mixes. So, if this little nankin egg makes it to hatching, it will probably hatch first. :)

I candled tonight. I set 8 serama,2 were clear,1 died early and had a blood ring that leaves me with 5 serama.

I'm sorry about the one that passed...best wishes on the remaining 5; I hope they hatch out nice and healthy for you.

My bator eggs are doing dreadful (not sure if we're supposed to give counts of tossed ones so I'm refraining from doing so) but suffice it to say the ratio is horrid. I have a pair of Serama flying over the US somewhere early this morning; hoping they get here when they are supposed to (can be anytime between 3 and 10 am).

I *think* the pullet I received last week (Annie Oakley) is broody. She's been hanging out in the nest box for two days straight.

I might give her some eggers to sit on if she keeps it up; we'll see.

I candled last night.. tossed a couple (both of 'my' eggs were not fertile so I guess the roosters aren't doing the job with the cold..) but have quite a few eggs in the running!! =)
