4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

I think I said I candled last night, but I'm pretty excited over just little barnyard mixes..and my one..pure Nankin. All are showing veins, but the little Nankin's eyeball is floating around, sure it will hatch first, hope it hatches.

Was snowing night before last, all day yesterday, and most of last night..now that it's stopped, it's just plain cold! My girls are happy and laying though! More snow to come by Fri. On our Family Christmas Party. Hope this storm isn't going to be another like this one. Want those roads good for all of our family that will be traveling..not far, but still, on the freeway. Everyone have a great day!

The kids and I candled tonight...

Out of 45 eggs...
1 - was tossed a few days ago due to a crack I must have missed when I set them
9 - look empty to me, but I'm leaving them in for a few more days just to be sure.
5 - I just can't tell yet... Too dark.
17 - have goods veining, but I didn't see any movement yet
13 - have great veining and definite movement!!

My own eggs are faring the best with 77.7% of them definitely developing right now
The eggs from MrHeinz are close behind with 73.4% of them definitely developing. (please, please, please give me an Ameraucana rooster to replace Roscoe!!!)
My mystery swap eggs are not doing so hot, with only 41.6% developing...
(I made it into a math problem for my kids... My 11 year old is a math wiz! He just ate it up!!!)

Oooo, this is sounding very good!

You guys are SO giving me the hatching bug. I have never hatched anything, being relatively new to this whole chicken thing. But reading this thread has me wanting to in a BIG way. if Santa doesn't give me a Brinsea, I'm building my own incubator after Christmas.

Good morning all! So who has the snow now? Forcasters are singing doom and gloom for Iowa, but we'll see. I candled everything again last night just to see the little wigglers and tossed the two I thought were empty. 38 little babies growing strong so I guess the Reptipro is doing OK.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Sebbies! I started Muscovies this year and they are really cool. I just love to watch them fly around the barns. Hopefully I'll get some babies next year, I hear they are really good parents.

I candled, and out of the three that made it, one died. That leaves me with only 2 out of 14 eggs.

I hope at least one hatches

So, I've been sick all day, still managed to clean up the dining room, oil the table, and start pulling out the Christmas linens.

We found one of our Rouen hens dead this morning. No blood, no vent issues, just looked like she never woke up. She looked peaceful, for which I'm thankful!

My daughter got on a train tonight, she is COMING HOME FOR CHRISTMAS!!! YIppee! She lives in California, going through a very upsetting divorce, but she decided to come get some mommy time! I get to pick her up on Thursday night, it will be a great Christmas!!

I am sorry for all of you who have had egg loss. I will, if I'm not shaky, candle tomorrow.
Keep the snow, for another week, then it can come.

Sally, you crack me up, I'd like to party with you!
Celtics, you are a really good advertiser! WE ALL want them now!!!!
Fluffy, I love my ducks, and I love yours, too!

MrHeinz and crew, you are all doing an amazing job! Keep up the great work, we really appreciate you!

Off to bed, I still have so much to do before the big kids get home for the holidays!
