4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Finally did it!! My 1st Article Submission.....for that BYC Contest!!

My Article is being submitted because I almost lost my Beautiful Blue Cochin, Fluffy due to Vent Gleet this past Summer. What a stressful learning experience and WOW hard to find information to treat naturally. My girl was so thin and so wasted away and this treatment was AMAZING so I just have to share everything I learned in the process this past summer, and trust me I kept ALL the information I found and all the pictures I took when I was trying so hard to figure out what was wrong! So sharing is hoping to help someone else in that same stressful situation to get through and have the info they need at hand.

How is it that this thread went two whole hours without a post? Is everyone dressing up their birds in party hats and posing them with bottles of booze?

mrheinz77 got more suggestions for saving on the feed bill. Get free mash from a brewery and ferment your feed were two options. Also, some of us need to get over shyness to ask for these things from people that have them.

Sally I want to thank you for that article I had a little chucker last summer that got pasty butt and I didnt find it till it was really bad , I got him cleaned up and pooping but a few weeks later I nocitced he had stuff on his butt fethers and his vent looked kinda yucky and he smelled , I gave him bathes and plucked out the feathers taht got rotted from that stuff sitting on them betweens baths but I could not get rid of it , I asked about it but no one knew what it was and he never got better , I ended up giveing him to Uncle dave to put out of his misery as nothing seemed to help and he was such a little skinny fellow it just didnt seem fair to tourture him all the time . Now I know if I see it again what to do .

That's a great idea with the sharpie, how do you calibrate one of those liquid types of thermometers?
You calibrate the glass thermometers by filling a glass with crushed ice and then adding water to the top. I let in sit for a few minutes and then stir it up. Put the thermometer in and it should read 32 F or 0 C depending on what type of thermometer you have. There are tons of videos on Youtube that show how to calibrate both thermometers and hygrometers.
