4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Do double yolkers usually hatch OK?

No, but maybe your's will be the exception since you have personal experience

I don't think they normally survive, however, there is a video on youtube of a lady helping a double chick egg hatch. I don't remember what she said about it, but it would be well worth checking it out. I can't see how both of them might pip into the air sack (unless it's sideways?) I'd do some research, cause it would be kinda cool to get them to hatch!

and
She had TWO double yolkers.

She got three chicks from the two eggs. MIRACLE... and hers were BLRWs also!!!

You'll have to watch because as soon as one pips, you'll have to "pip' the other air sac and you'll eventually need to help both of them out as in the videos. That gal was a member of BYC at the time and she walked us through every agonizing step of helping the three chicks out... one of the four died... but amazingly two from one egg lived!

So excited for lockdown and hatch day!! Also, a few days ago I noticed one of my Blue Laced Red Wyandotte eggs was a DOUBLE YOLKER!! I thought it was a smidge bigger than the others but didn't think anything of it. :) But I candled and saw TWO in there! It was so funny because it was half way through incubation that I noticed. When I was pregnant with my boys we didn't know there were TWO until halfway through the pregnancy! LOL! We went in to see if the baby was a boy or a girl and they said "Did you know there were two in here?" NO! Anyways, now I am freaking out about them pipping and hatching OK. Do double yolkers usually hatch OK? Or do they normally need assistance at some point? GAAAH!

There seems to be some confusion regarding lockdown date on a few other threads. I was told day 18 was lockdown time so for those who set on Dec. 11, that should be Dec. 29th right? Eek, I'm getting nervous!

she has been texting me, I told her to go buy herself the top of the line incubator and dont let her Mom spoil her hobby!!
you should txt her and give her a push too! she asked me what kind and I really dont know... I told her to search online and on here for threads and stuff that have ratings and such...

It may be a tad early to txt her. :D. I did offer to lend her my Genesis Hovabator (once I get these NYD chicks hatched). We'll see.

Oh MY! Is this a sign? ;)

Double Yolkers are very risky. I've seen one being assisted to hatch successful on u-tube.

I found it! And, she refers to BYC on the video! Also has a very sweet southern accent and listening to and watching a hatch has me PUMPED!!

I have a double yolker as well, its from my EEs. I knew it was one when i set it. I havent watched the video, but the chick on the bottom without an air sac will need most of the help. Ive helped a few upsie down chicks, so hopefully that gives me some expeirnce. I hhad one in my christmas hatch, well 2 but the second died before absorbing its yolk. Its was to big to turn and zip.
