4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

I have a fouth button quail pip , so far just the tiny pips not progress from this morning . I may turn of my hatch cam Im not sure yet I may just leave it running who knows I might go to bed and some person might log on at 3 am and catch something happening

THat would be very nice. Also there was one contest that said it was over but no winner was annonced that I know of so I think the peoples in charge should go look up all the contests and make sure were all current on stuff. I want to thank them all for there hard work I know it must be almost impossible to keep strait

Good luck! Before the hatch started I had 4 out of 9 Serama's hatch and love them to death! I have many of their pictures in the photo contests.

I fell in love with them earlier this year when I first saw CPL's seramas. I'm hatching some from her and some super secret ones she sent with them. I can't tell who they came from till they hatch!

I may need that I just realized that my turner was not plugged in, it's been close to 2 weeks and to top that off I can't candle because the bulb burned out on my candler, I know I have some somewhere in this house just have to look. This is not looking good

Candled and locked down tonight... We have only one egg that survived, but at least we have one! Our turner was tilted, and the only one that survived was the one at the top of the egg carton, which makes me think the temps were too low. Would that kill eggs?

I have a question: when we candled tonight, the egg looked kinda like there was still a lot of room in it. We could still see veins on both sides of the chick. Is that ok? Should we lock down later?

Thanks!

Just candled my 14 muscovy eggs set a week ago. Can seen veining in all but 2 and the 2 sure look viable by color. Veining just became visible in the others, so hoping the other two have veins soon. Happy to be off to a good start with them, at least. Have heard they can be difficult.

Question...I've got one chick in a pretty large, long egg. Candling makes it look about the same size as the others in mass, but the egg is much taller, so there is more clear fluid between chick and air sac than the other eggs. Is this a problem?

Ha! Just saw the post above when I posted.

Ok, so I have a question... I set more eggs on the 23rd... what do I do about humidity.... I don't want to cause a problem with water accumulating in the eggs that I set 6 days ago... but I don't want my lock down eggs to be shrink wrapped.... what should my humidity be at???
If it were me I'd kick the humidity up on day 19 to about 60 and not worry about the 2 or 3 days the newer ones will have high humidity.
What if it was a broody and you had 3 days of rain with 100% humidity?

Ah! This is where all the insanity has moved to!!! Honestly, this thread has been so big I felt a little (okay, totally and completely) lost. But considering it's an hour away from being the 30th I should probably come play, huh?

Just put everybody into lockdown. I'm so nervous, I feel a little nauseous. My last two hatches were such (almost total) busts that I don't know how well I'll handle it if this one goes as poorly. Trying to think positive!!!
