I got a ton of thank yous for sponsoring the worst hatch rate contest. You alllllllllllll are so welcome and I am tickled to have been a part of the fun. I certainly hope everyone has an amazing hate rate. Thank you for all the PMs and thank yous LOL I was seriously amazed. You all get some sleep. I can see you are nervous wrecks. Your babies will be just fine. I am looking forward to all the pictures.
The official hatch isn't over yet so I hope you haven't awarded anyone yet! I'm hoping my chicks come to life at some point in the next 2 days, but if they don't I'm vying for worst hatch!
Hey late nighters....if you have a few minutes, check out our Grumpiest Bird of 2012 contest. We are in the voting process now and would love to have more BYCers chiming in on who the champion should be. Thanks :) https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...iest-chicken-of-2012-photo-contest-voting-now
Wha?? When did this contest come about. This is the first I've heard of it and yet we are already voting. Was this on the contest page?
Y'know...as far as I am concerned, it is still a bit early yet. I have made my best effort to maintain a stable temp and humidity to give me a timely hatch, not a somewhat early one. I believe mine are storing up their energy for a true New Years Day birth! If they were racehorses hatching today, they would already be OLD NEWS after all, eh?
Yes! My sentiments exactly. I'm vying for the first NYD hatchling ... after all, that's what it's all about!

LOL You know me by my name rather than my acreage name so I'm not surprised you didn't catch that one Matt! No big.
See, I told you I was hopeless with this...Sorry about the huge double post! m
LOL I did have a chuckle at that! So do tell - what did you set? How many and I see you are still awaiting the first pip as I am.

Thanks for all the encouragement. Maybe I'll try to get some sleep to make the time pass faster! I'm gonna be nuts by the time January is over. I've got more eggs in the other 'bator getting ready for their lockdown in a few days, then in a few more days and a few more days!

I hope I get some babies. I'll have bantam olive eggers next, then serama and then some from my very own little Cochin beauties.

Woohoo!

Quick question ... Instead of putting paper towels down over my bator wire, i put that rubber mat stuff that people use in their drawers. Someone recommended it and it sounded like a good idea at the time - the eggs don't roll around as easy and it should provide good footing for the peeps, and it has holes for circulation of air and humidity. Sounds ok, ya? Or, maybe not. It is emitting a really strong rubbery smell and now I'm concerned that this might hurt my hatchlings before or after they hatch (if they hatch). Do you think I should be worried? I didn't think twice about it until my husband said I was probably slowly poisoning them with the rubber mat smell :( eek!
