4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Hello Everyone! I want to Introduce myself as I am new (well made my account a few months ago but work and show season got in the way and I just learned how to use it) to the forum and very much enjoying following the NYD Hatch threads! I am learning so much about hatching experiences and having a lot of fun seeing and hearing about everyone's flocks! Good luck to all those who are hatching in the contest I certainly hope We can participate next year!!! Especially Now that I have figured out the posting on more than just my work computer;) Erin
Welcome! Its so great to see new people on the thread. NYC is fun.
400
One of my chicks has hatched do i win?
Tell it to go back in the shell and wait till 12:01!
That sounds great. I hope the request/suggestion to do so didn't sound pushy -- I was thinking that if winners were listed right w/ each contest it would be a logical place for ppl to find the winners and therefore cut down on tons of "who" & "is it still open" redundant questions on the thread(s). esp. w/ the HUGE MEGA-HUGE volume of posts we've all been achieving. I know I am, & I'm sure everyone else is, really thankful for all the great effort all of the people running this hatch-along have been doing. It is clearly hours & hours of your personal time! You all deserve special good chicken luck after all this :)
Great minds. I think the BYC contests won't be posted till next week ( its like the weekend for these people and a holiday. I got while madly emailing today )
there is always one whiny one :barnie my little cortunix baby squeeks and squeeks
Cot are crazy loud. The taller they can stretch the louder they get. Dh the quail lover also wanted me to remind people they need food and water faster then chicken babies do so if you have times without pips grab them and stick them n the brooder.
How long ago did you try to make the hole bigger and it bled ? Im thinking give him till morning and then help some more maybe but its your call.
If you do want to open up the bator and are worried about humidity try the bathroom rick. Run the shower till its humid and that in there and open them up in there.
Hopped off the Contest 18. Can't even begin to read anything that is happening, anyway. So, ahhh, grabbin' myself some chocolate Earl Gray and settling in. :)
What I that??? I was in India when I was a young thing and they put all sorts of stuff in the tea. I can only do straight tea with nothing in it now. I blame dung fires.
I cant MY DUCKY IS HATCED!!! OMG OMG OMG OMG TOOO ADORABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG SERIOUSLY OMG DUCK DUCK QUACK DDUCK YAYYAYYA
Ducks! Water madness and mayhem. I keep saying I'll never do again then I think muscovies...,
my humidity is only at 56% and i cant get it any higher, im so worried!
I use the wet sock method. It hold longer then a sponge. 300 posts in 6 hours what will you have done to me in the morning???
I think I've checked my incubator over 50 times today... All the stories of chicks hatching ... I REAALLY want to see something happening in there...
I'm right there w/ you & I've had way low humidity all along like teens & 20%, so I'm freaking about it now, had to mess w/ it (I know smack my hand but it was only 30% until I added stuff now it is 59%)

Oh wow, all the things that can go wrong, it's amazing any of them hatch! I know the big guys just let nature take it's course, it's not financially viable to help them, but for us, we want every egg that could hatch have every chance we can give it

I hope that little one makes it!!!

I know right! I have a good feeling about this chick, but worry that it was in the shell so long like that and infection.... but time will tell!

Thanks!  They are so stinking cute!  I don't think I have ever seen such cute chicks!  (Of course, they are also the youngest chicks I have seen.  The last ones we got were a few days old already.)  I just put my hand in there, and two came over to climb on.   Then I cupped my hand so they could climb under like a hen.  They got all snuggled in.... I wish I could sit like that all day for them!  :love
Our other chicks were all scared from the get go, so this is just too sweet!
all my baby silkies were afraid of me but one which is like a zombie. When you looked in the brooder she just looked up.at you with her huge black eyes. mine get friendly when they hit six months

I'm not going to go to bed until the upside down chick is out.  Right now he seems to have energy, so I'll leave him be, but if it starts to look dry (because I opened the shell :he )  I'll work on him unless there is blood :)  I feel good about him, I think he'll make it.  It's so much healthier looking than my first 4 Seramas!
the bleeding thing is not exactly as serious as most think as there are three main vains if you puncture those then the chick will most likely bleed out unless you tie it. before I knew anything about hatching i tryed to help a duck to early still had a bunch of albumen and was bleeding all over i accedently twisted one of the large veins that was punctured and all bleeding stopped i.was amazed.
