YAAY! Our first NYD hatch @10:45 p.m. with another [at least] 11 good pips. This one is loud and vigorous, and promptly climbed out of the tray and landed in the bottom of the 'bator, where it will have to stay...I don't think any harm can come to him...just a bit of damp paper towel down there for humidity. I would just as soon he was up tromping over his fellows to wake them up to finish their work though!

Not sure i posted on here in the beginning as my hatch was BBS Orps was to be Dec29th ..However i didnt take in account i set at 10;30 at night so 10;30 pm Dec 29-Dec 30 10;30 pm was day 21...
.My eggs began to pip and then one hatched Dec 30 the other 1 took until Jan 31 about 4 am and the last who had been pipped since the day before was an assist . Got him out 8 am. Wing was glued to the shell and membrane.... So 2 WERE on NY Eve not NY DAY though.
He was falling over on his back every 2 seconds after hatch though he was ill but his wing was glued to his side he couldnt balance!
Guy was sticky too
Guess that big pip hole he had let in too much air
First pic he looks pathetic after i tryed t o get his wing unglued with pretty much success but needed 2 more cleanings.

Photo Today Hes not in with the in crowd yet as you can see Still not real fluffy either but way betterHope he makes it '

Congrats!!

Here are my 4 silkies and one "mutt" in the back corner.

This was my first time hatching shipped eggs. I set 18, 6 made it to lockdown, and 4 hatched. The mutt is from a broody that deserted her post at the last minute. I had no idea how far along it was; it just happened to hatch on 1/1.

My hatch rate from my own hens is usually about 90%, but the last one I did from my eggs I had 4 out of 15 that looked fully develope but never pipped. I had 2 like that this time. This is a new problem for me. :(
Silkies....

My first egg has pipped!!!! I was dead asleep...I have no idea how but it must have woke me up...something did...I got up, went to the bathroom...got something to drink...I got back into bed..didn't even look inside the incubator..and I heard it...a very faint sound...I questioned whether or not it was real or imagined...

I turned off the noise machine I have next to my door...Normally it is nececarry to keep the sound from carrying throughout the house. I heard it..a peep! I looked inside and there it was...my first egg has a little pip!!!!

Cross your fingers everyone!!!

Shipped eggs are a gamble. I've had anywhere from 0-100% hatch rates from shipped eggs. Winter is rough though. First the eggs might deteriorate if left in the cold too long from when they're laid, then the cold in shipping and all that. It's always preferrable to ship eggs in warmer months.
I also have one more chicken and quail that popped out late, plus two more ducklings and two more chickens internally pipped and some others due Friday. I'll be hatching all winter and spring for local sales and my own breeding groups and of course meaties.

That is such good news! Hatch little piped chickie : )

Well if you feel like thats enough chicks then go ahead now. He could be dead if he pipped long ago .I had one do that crack on the bottom or was rolled before i saw it crack but was dead in the end .Think it drowned on the water under it or smothered
...
He could still be ok if you do take them out and at most he will shrink which you can assist him out.
Trick to that is when .is the RIGHT time? Too early he will die veins not dried up bleed to death and yolk maybe not be absorbed... too late he will die
Hard call with the one in the bator 24 hours. It should be ok til morning.threy say they can mae it 2-4 days afte rthey hatch no food or water. idont klike mine in that long 24 is aout waht igo too
I know how you feel....

babsbag, double check your thermostat by putting in a medical thermometer wrapped in a waterbag to simulate the egg, or else just a candie thermometer, I noticed they work really well too, just laying in there. Anyway, digital ones can go off, and even if you can't recalibrate it, you can always adjust it.
YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MY FIRST PIP!!!!!
Awesomeness!!!!

^.^ 11:07 pm. MST. :D
