4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Cluck-cluck, I was just being silly, they haven't picked a winner yet. But I just FEEL it! Plus I want some GFF Orps so bad....it hurts.

And on another note, one of my 16 day old NYD hatch Banty Cochins was trying to crow yesterday! I am amazed. I didn't film it, but I did give his lil butt a spray with Blue Cote. (To mark him).

Already said, but Old English Game Bantams ;)
Is that one OK? Looks like maybe he has spraddle legs? does he have a hard time getting around?
Ok, now I have to find some burlap.......... er.....where do I find it? LOL. This is cool, now that I have Fermented Feed down, I want to do sprouting!
PM the person in charge of that one (can't remember who it is) Congratulations on that win, oh wow, you're gonna get something nice, I'm sure!!!

It's legs are fine. Gets around great. It just likes to sleep belly to the "sun." Think it's sunbathing.

Well all my birdies are now on FF!! and its all bubblin away!!! YAY!! and I am finding after this week they have some left over so I will start to reduce!! I will crack two eggs today to see if they are larger yet!! Trick was, keep it warm, UNCOVERED, and only enough feed for the daily rations, and now its easy!!! I am still trying to find a better way to drain the starter feed as it just holds the moisture and doesnt drain well.....

ITS AMAZING ITS WORKING ~ ps poo still does stink in the chicks brooder though....
And I love the smell, like a BREWERY!! LOL but I hate beer go figure

Plus I am now ordering whole grains from the mill to add to feed....
I ordered wheat, oats and cracked corn to start... I forgot to ask about BOSS : (
Next time!!

I wanted to move my FF into the house last night, but after a disasterous episode with my problem rescue Aussie chasing the horses, I was too upset to even think about it. Hopefully tonight will be better...

I am nervous about how much to feed. My layers are cleaning up every feeding, so I worry, i'm not feeding enough. Prim and her babies leave a good deal of the feed, which then freezes in the bowl, so I'm worried they are just not eating enough. The NYD chicks seem to eat it well when I put it in the brooder, but they always leave a bit smushed and trampled down into the bottom of the bowl. They seem happy and content in between feedings, so I'm the least worried about them...

I fed them enough so I could tell how much they actually wanted... and then only take that amount... but after a week they arent eating as much so I keep taking a bit more out of the pail!! YAY feed costs will go down!! proven in just one week AMAZING!

Chickens can get frozen bits out of a bowl if for some reason they are hungry. They are pretty strong. Usually you can asume if you have frozen FF, you are over feeding. I would reduce the amount and for Prim and her babys, feed 2x a day.

Sally, keep an egg before FF started and after two weeks crack a new egg and the old egg..you will notice shell improvement, yolk improvement and color improvement.
