4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Apartments are not really designed to handle poultry. Other people live in the building and some are alergic to chickens, chicken dust etc. it is understandable. The owner is probably worried about health codes and a tenant suing him if they get sick from the poultry.
I am sorry Gabs that you have to remove the birds, perhaps it is time to look for a different place that is more suitable for having poultry? Like your very own house where people can't tell you how to have your poultry?

I have serama there tiny and fit quite well inside. As for allergies yes people do but as my animals are inside the only way they could use that as an exscuse would to be to get rid of , peanuts, perfumes, ciggeretts , dogs, cats ," normal" pet birds such as perakeets and goodness only knows what but there are allergies to those. I have ashma and ciggertte and marjianna smoke, perfumes and such can all cause me to have an attack , I do not require everyone liveing in the same building as I to stop useing all those things. Why would allergies to birds be any diffrent. Haveing a pet chicken imo is no diffrent then haveing a dog or a cat or a parrot. Chickens are no more dirty or loud then any of those, unless you have been around a parrot you might not know it but they can be LOUD and we all know how annoying a nahbors barking dog can be. Im getting rid of my pets because soeone doesnt like them. To me its the same as someone being able to complain about any other pet somene might have and just haveing to get rid of it. I just dont understand. The rooster thing at least makes a little sense but its not just my rooster or even my chickens its my quail too. Cots and buttons arnt large and there not loud so I dont understand. As for desises . its the same thing cats and dogs can carry those as well as well as parisites. I just dont see the diffrence . Just becuase its a chicken pet shoudnt mean anything as long as Im not trying to keep a whole flock of large fowel in my apartment. my serama wiegh maybe a pound and arnt the much bigger then large pigeon. Sorry Im not trying to sound upset about your comment just shareing my view about this situation.
I have been looking for a new place to live but the avrage small 2 bedroom house around here goes for 750-1200 and I just cant aford that as Im disabled and we live on my sons disability check.

We do have a membership, and I suppose it does save us some since we usually get a dividend cheque at the end of every fiscal year. Feed is very pricey now compared to what it was the last time I had poultry though. I'm paying $16.99 (CDN) for a bag of layer ration and that only lasts me about 1.5 weeks. :(
Oh no ... that's not good. I can't see how people can complain about a few chickens when half the neighbourhood often has dogs barking half the night and running loose.

Dog barking!! I can't believe that a dog can bark for hrs on end..no joking! It's driving me crazy! Sorry about losing your chickens gabs..you need a place where you can have them, you love them so much. :(

Craft stores/ Material stores sell bolts of material and pieces of burlap.
Really? Gonna go look! I have some wheat soaking since yesterday, not sure what to do with it at this point, LOL, I want it to turn a bit green before I feed it to the chickens, so I guess I'll try putting it on some newspaper?

UGh my owner showed up unexpectedly and says he has been getting complaints about the birds so they have to go.

. I have talked to anyone close enough to be able to hear them and they all say they dont have a problem

, I wish people woudnt lie to me . Im not a agressive or angry person Im always quite and polite they have no reason to say one thing to me and one thing to someone else.
Uncle Dave will take the quail. So now Ineed to find a home for the button quail and the chickens.
Oh heck! I'm so sorry! Do you have any family that have homes where you can house your flock? I guess that's a tough one ... I can't imagine my sister or mother allowing me to keep chickens at their homes

Gosh, really hope you can find another place to live where you can enjoy your birds soon!

I also wanted to say your son is a beautiful boy, I'm sorry he isn't well, but what a cutie! Take care!!

putting it on newspapper would dry it out too fast. You could try wet paper towels until you make some bags. They need to be rinsed daily and kept damp, not wet. You can use an old sox for now too. Put the seeds in and rinse it daily. it willl take about 4-5 days to have a nice tail.

My peeps have outgrown their brooder! Eeek! Now I have to figure out how to house them until it's nice enough outside for them. It's much too cold out to put them in the barn at this point.

Adorable!!! You can split them into a couple different large rubermaid totes. I cut the center of the lid out of mine & glue screen in to keep babies from flying out. Since they are inside you can likely remove your heat lamps & just keep the room about 70F. If you have a room you can close off you can set a small heater in the room & raise temps to 75-80F if need be. I've done it many times when I ran out of brooder space & lights.

Thanks for the suggestions. Great idea using the rubbermaid totes! I had a litter of puppies planned for this spring, but my ***** didn't take so I may just cart out the whelping pen and put them in there ... it's roughly 5' x 6' or a bit larger and should hopefully suffice until April I hope. The brooder is in our mudroom where we are constantly opening the door to let dogs in and out, hence the lamp. I have started decreasing the temp though since they are getting feathers now.
