4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Even without service your phone should still show the time if you have one. If not, the clock on a laptop or other small computer-like device (tablet, i-pad, radio clock that sets itself automatically) can be used.

It would show time if I left it on coming home from a service area, but not when it's off and turned on and can't find signal. I will use my self-setting alarm clock then :) Thanks!

For those of us that set duck eggs several days ago, and forgot to take pictures of them when we first set them..can we wait to take pictures of them until we set the chicken eggs? Or do I need to wait until I set my Quail eggs, and then take a picture of them all in the incubator?

Ok went back and read important info page still didnt find anything on using a clock when you first set the eggs. :( I am glad i was told before tomorrow i would cry if i hadnt found out about it until after and been disqualified.

If those are MY eggs you are talking about it's just the roo who is a lemon blue cochin bantam. The hens are production layers. That means you should get some with feathered legs & "bloomers" & some with clean legs who should lay like mad & occasionally go broody to hatch you some babies. The colors, however, could be anything since they are such a mixed lineage. You will have gorgeous rainbow babies.

Got the incubator under control. Programmed it to graph temp and humidity changes and send alerts by email when gets out of range. Tightened up all the wires and will be making housing units for the arduino and RP boards. I guess it stopped sensing temp because a CAT knocked a wire out of the arduino board!!! ARGH!!! Everything seems OK now and all babies seem to be moving around again except one. One seems to have no baby? Lots of material sloshing around but i see no eyes or outline of a chick. Maybe baby is hiding in there? I will leave for now and check in a couple days.

On a more relevant note! My Hatch Along eggs arrived! Still more on the way but I have plenty for now. Amazing packaging jobs by all the BYC sellers (and I ebay seller) I have had the privilege or purchasing from. If it were not for the amazing amount of care taken in packaging the eggs I would have lost them all due to the HATEFUL handling from my local postal service. I hope they all, especially the woman behind the counter today, get coal in their stockings!!

*I have always had lots of chickens but this is my first hatch on a HOME MADE incubator.* HOLLA!!

Ok, sounds great, now come over and do mine

I added water to my new "system" and got 62% humidity :( Still too high, so I added more blocks, splashed a bit, so it'll be a while before I know if it was enough!
