4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Where did your RIR eggs come from? Most yellow chicks are white as adults. If they are from a hatchery RIR bred to a hatchery RIR or other hatchery bird, it could easily end up white since most hatchery birds have some cross breeding in their background. Those hidden genes are just looking for a way to express themselves. Looking on the bright side, if it is a pullet, it will more than likely lay lots of eggs for you!
I bought them from someone on CL. They were really just selling them as eating eggs, but I wanted to hatch them. I would asume they are hatchery stock.

Quote: Free range eating eggs could be anything. More than likely it will be white, very healthy and, as stated above, a great layer if it ends up a pullet. Hatching is fun no matter what you end up with! Enjoy!!

I know the hens where RIR, but I never asked about the roosters.

I believe you only needed to post a picture if you are participating in the hatch rate contest. Anyone of course can hatch along.

Does it have to have the time and date on there? I don't have an atomic clock....

You didn't need to post a clock with your set photo, only with a "wet chick" photo if you are going for the first chick after midnight. Then it has to be an image of the atomic clock on a monitor or smart phone. A portable clock, cell phone clock, etc can all have their time adjusted. I'm not saying anyone would do that, it's just to keep things fair for everyone.

Good luck with your egg!

I have 6 Pet Quality Calls as well, plus a pair of Whites. My Chocolate girl is by far the smallest and has the smallest bill. Do you have any pictures of yours? I'd love to see them.
That sounds like a fun project!

None of mine have really short bills. They are fun though, I love them.

This is my youngest baby, she's almost 3 weeks.

One of the 2 in the pool is daddy. I sold the snowies, but have a blue magpie, black bibbed, gray pied, and another black magpie. Addictive little things, seems like I never have enough.
Time for cuteness....

I have a car adaptor for my Genesis 1588's. More than once I've taken incubators with us on vacation

. I actually had to shut them down in October though when we flew to Mexico, I don't think the TSA would have understood incubators full of eggs. And can you see me going to the pilot and saying............"Mind if I plug this into your cigarette lighter?"

Awwww!

Actually we just got some ducks, but all little tiny things...............a pair each of mandarins, wood ducks and ringed teals. I love to watch them perch on the highest branch (6 ft up) in their pen. Cute!

Deb
I got a pair of mandarins not that long ago. Love them, I just wish they were a little calmer, lol. I love the teals, I want some someday.

Thank you! I'm excited... it's my first egg ever... and happened quite by accident yesterday. :)
