I've got a rant that has nothing to do with chickens! Why can't they make a snow shovel that actually shovels snow and lasts more than a day? The plastic ones break when it is cold outside, the metal ones are either so flimsy they bend right away or they have metal strip on the bottom that catches on absolutely everything you are shovelling. They are no different than finding a dustpan that actually works nowadays. I've tried so many dustpans that only collect half of the swept up pile that it is ridiculous. My best one is a hand-me-down from my mother from the 60s.

Okay - done with my rant! BTW - DS plowed the driveway last night and we woke up to 3 more inches of the white stuff (We try not to say that 4-Letter word outloud).

YAY!!!! My quail eggs were found! Now I'm hoping that they arrive without too much more fuss and are in good shape. Oh, and I hope they still have a good hatch rate! (Getting greedy now with my hoping, aren't I?) I still have to check up on silkie eggs headed my way and some packages headed out to others.

For this contest, the chick hatched must be from The 3rd Annual BYC NYD Hatch. The picture will need to be taken and posted by or before 11:59PM EST on Dec 31st, 2012. We'll be asking folks in the hatch as well as some moderators to help judge if they are willing. - This was taken from the contest thread

-Not sure how it can be from this year's hatch since pictures need to be in before the actual hatch day

Maybe we need to figure out the scoop on this.

She might, you never know. My girl went broody several months ago. First she hatched me out 4 Violet Guinea Keets (however, she kicked one out of the nest and it died), after that happened I had to take the rest away from her. Then somehow 7 duck eggs got under her??

Hmmmm, how did those get there?

Thank you. I'm not sure. I thought maybe she was egg bound. (She hadn't been laying yet though.) I dont really want to cut her up to find out though.

I was wondering the same thing. It seems weird to have a contest only for pics taken last year, but the deadline would make it pretty hard to get pics this year.
