4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Just candled my 48 eggs. I have 7 growing.

Most others were clear, a couple of blood rings, and another stinker. As I said earlier, all except one egg were shipped eggs.

That sucks. I kinda of candled mine and as far as I can tell not good for me either my problems is I have 11 eggs I have had in the fridge for 2 months si i am not surprised with those eggs and then 8 shipped eggs and look like only 2 or 3 are growing on shipped eggs.

Oh my... So sorry :( Did you crack the clears to see if they were fertile? Most of mine I couldn't tell because it looked like the yolk exploded -.- grrrrr

Now I need to go check on mine... I had 21/60... Let's hope they're hangin' in there!

Sooooooooo something interesting has come to light.

Remember this week me talking about or Sebastopols and their down?

seems SOMEONE ran to Facebook, posted a photo of some poor goose (who isnt ours) who had been plucked bare and bloody and claimed it was a picture of one of my birds.

I DONT HARVEST DOWN FROM OUR GEESE. I mearly said it can be done, and can be done without butchering the geese. It does NOT make them bare and bloody if done properly. It is controversial, but has been done for centuries with geese living for 20+ years.

Please remember we live in FLORIDA, and our photos reflect that we live in FLORIDA and I watermark everyone one of my photos very specifically and wouldnt be easily reproduced.

silly people, always someone wanting to spread rumors.
First off, what an a-hole. Second, wow, I didn't know that this was done! Actually, I thought that down was collected from nests, but now I look it up, and that's only for Eider down. Now I'm wondering if there are any geese or ducks that nest that way, that one could harvest a portion of their down periodically, or if that doesn't work that way with domesticated animals?

This is their victory lap aroung the Coliseum... Look at that smile!! She's been dreaming of a victory lap ever since she saw her first one when she was 7... I'm glad I have pictures... I was crying too hard to see her!

Oh, it's not you, it's the time of year and the shipping, it's hard right now! Hopefully those 7 will actually hatch. I'm hoping the 4 I have left will actually hatch too

19 still going... Wonder if i should play them some Tony Robbins or other motivational speaker mp3s?

My Mom & Dad just left. My wonderful Dad, who was an electrician before he retired, came to my rescue tonight and figured out why I had no lights in my livingroom and no power in my main bathroom... An outlet in my bathroom had shorted out and almost burnt through a wire!!! Scary!

While they were her, I showed my Mom my incubator. I candled a few of my eggs for her and I found a couple of my questionable eggs had movement!! Even one that I thought was clear on Tuesday night had definite movement tonight!! Yay!!! The one I thought was developing a blood ring, definitely had a blood ring, so I pulled it before it could explode. So I'm down to 43 eggs in the bator now, but I added about 4 more to my + column on my chart...
