4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Beth - this picture is for you:

Meet Inky (a.k.a Inkspot)..he came from the first set of duck eggs I got from you. Remember I told you I kept one of the ducklings? Well this is Inky all growed up. He is the sweetest lil 'ole thing! He'll come running up to me when I call his name, and loves to eat out of my hand.

~ Enjoy

2 more dozen into the incubator today!

Lost one last night, thermometer fell off side, tape stuck to an egg (unbeknownst to me), so when I picked up the thermometer, slow mo saw the egg pop up and drop. "Nooooooooo...." So, I'm down a little blue egg, but ah well. Them's the breaks.

Darn storm ripped my door off the coop, so it's propped in place right now, but tomorrow will be a Home Depot day, to build a new door in the garage to place. The old one is falling apart, so better just to build a new one with a better design. :)

Think I'll put a barn door design on this time, always loved those X doors. *big grin*

I'm biting my nails..... I have 8 shipped eggs coming in from Ill.... they are in Boise ID right now... should be here tomorrow... but I HOPE so.. 'cause if not, then it could be WEDNESDAY omg... I don't think they would survive that long in the post office at room temp.. ya know? >.<

If, they are in the post office..they should be fine! If you know they are there, that means they have been scanned..so, they are where it's a bit warmer, better than sitting in the truck tailer! I haven't read on yet..maybe you got them today..hope so!

For those who had eggs shipped, I saw a somewhat disturbing video on the morning news a couple days ago.
It was a story about the busiest mail delivery day of the year filmed at the mail sorting facility in Hazelwood, MO. All the scanning and sorting was done on automated equipment and the package movement was smooth on belts but at several points all the packages tumbled to a lower conveyor belt.
As I watched I was trying to imagine what was happening inside the eggs in all those packages.

Yes! My postman told me all about those. He said it isn't the handling by the postal people, but the belts! If, the box of eggs reach the end of a belt just as a new bag is put there, then the box has further to drop! If the bag is full, then of course, it doesn't drop as far. But he says it's a pretty good drop when that new bag is put into place.

WE HAVE PEEEEEEEEEEPS!!

Last night around midnight I was blessed to witness a chick hatch for the first time! We call him/her Shellbert (although we don't know which one that one is now) because he/she had a little shell on his/her head like a hat. When I went to bed there were lots of other eggies peeping and pipped. I woke up this morning to find more chickies!!

MORE BABIES!!

Lucky you, Merry Christmas early!

Good Morning!

We had a Pacific Storm come though last night, with wind, lightening and rain! It was cold too, so the snow level came down to the valley floor for us.

We now have a break before the next one, so I took a picture for Mrs. Fluffy Puffy:

This is Leela, from a test hatch of her EO Basque:

Oh great, that must be the one we are expecting tomorrow. More snow, and a lot of wind with it. Here we go again. BTW...very pretty hen! Love the coloring!

I mentioned we have a sebastopol with two colored eyes last week.............well here is a good picture of her up close.

she has two toned eyes and three colors of feathers. A very unique girl who my hubby reminded me is not on my project list of breeding plans.
