Love your pictures, Sally, your Seramas are adorable! The four that are still going in my incubator are also from Bhep! Nice to see she produces such lovely little chicks!! I hope to get a really pretty boy out of my batch!!!

I have 3 or 4 Serama eggs that are growing from my birds...I am not sure if I'll keep them or sale them. They are always so tiny and cute!

Great WORK!! I am wondering... you dont have "cold spots" in the bator do you???
Sally, I don't think I have cold spots in my incubator. It was practically draft free except when the top was opened which it wasn't opened all the way. There was that huge temp spike a week ago when it was about 114 degrees for about 20 mins. That egg was closest to the heat bulb. But, I have a piece of cardboard I use as a heat shield to prevent eggs from getting direct heat and UV light from the basking lamp I use. There is also a very strong PC fan blowing air over the heat bulb and circulating the hot air to prevent hot/cold spots and to keep fresh air coming and going from the holes in the top of the unit. I can't think of any reason the chick would have died.

But I am not going to fret over it. What is done is done and I don't think there is anything I could have done differently. I am just glad I have almost all of my chicks healthy and happy!

Ok...so this is my first hatch, and this might be a very basic stupid question... but WHEN do you move the chicks from the 'bator to the brooder?? I can't seem to find an answer to that. :p

You move them to the brooder once they are completely fluffy and most likely wandering around the incubator kicking eggs around lol. It takes around 4 hours for them to get dry and fluffy, so once they are like that, you can move them to the brooder. I wouldn't move them alone, make sure they have a buddy when they are in the brooder, or else they will cheep loudly of loneliness. Hope this helps.

I haven't been checking here much today...  My youngest DS had a BBgame this morning, then I spent the rest of the day spending some QT with the kids...  Star Wars Monopoly (I won :plbb ), Jenga..  The out to the barn to do chores a bit early, now gonna snuggle down for a movie and some popcorn!!

On a side note, I decided to give each of my family members a dozen eggs for a family Christmas present, but my girls decided to slow way down on their laying...  I'm freaking out cuz, I'm not going to have enough for everyone, but today they all decided to give me an egg (except Prim, but she has an excuse!!)!  If they give me 11 more between now and Monday moring, I'll have enough!!!  Go ladies!!!  Lay those eggs!!!  :cd :yiipchick

You finished a game of monopoly? I wasn't aware it could be done.

Quote: They are tiny (if you find high quality ones that is) however the ducks are VERY VERY VERY loud. That is why we no longer raise them. They would greet hubby at 4:15 am when he turned on the kitchen lights to start his day.
Quote: Thanks, they come in handy around here
Quote: No idea on the quail, we do all of the hatching eggs for the science department each year. So we started with quail this year, they will do chicken, duck and goose yet
