4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

4th time candling another random assortment of eggs. Is it weird I haven't found a single non-developing egg? lmao. I only counted the chicken eggs for the hatch but so far none have been tossed. did toss 9 turkey and duck eggs, buuuut i do have development in a lone duck egg and in now 6 turkey eggs :D So Im happy with that lol

Hopefully you get the temperatures right, I have had many very long nights for that same reason but my new genesis seems to never flucuate. And I showed my aunts and cousins and everyone the developing eggs last night and they were all amazed.  It really is exciting, I get excited every night and I've done it hundreds of times. Many of them couldn't believe that the embryos had blood vessels forming around them as well as within them. So what did your great-nephews think about the eggs?

Only 1 week left, I'm getting soo eggcited! :weee

We had some young guests this week, 10 and 14. Had my son candle for them, and they were amazed. On the other hand....had the 3 and 5 year old grands here last night and to avoid temp spikes, eggs missing? Broken, ect...we avoided the incubator completely. They know that that's where Grandmom's chicks start off sometimes and are all over it!

Razadia, so very glad to hear that you and your family are well.

I just found out that my friend's boss has emu, and he's willing to give me an egg if he can collect them before they freeze.  That would be the ultimate hatch!

Cochins, the FIRST thing I did after reading our post was dream of EMUs and look how far you are from me! Cause I am THAT crazy sometimes.

We were given an EMU egg last spring. And some things I learned were that they hatch at a lower temperature which my Genesis could not maintain, so I found a LG which would work. Our egg did not hatch, I believe our biggest mistake with the egg was that we only had the one and didn't put 'sinkers' (sealed glass jars filled with water) in with the egg to better maintain the temperature.

Good Morning everyone. Sorry I didn't post a picture yesterday. Here are both day 14 and 15.

What's going on inside our chicken eggs - Day 14 & 15:

Day 15:

On the fourteenth day the claws are forming and the embryo is moving into position for hatching.

Fourteenth day -- embryo gets into position suitable for breaking shell

Brookhavens - I just want you to know how much I enjoy seeing the progression of growth that you post every day. It really makes one marvel at this miracle of life.
When I first started hatching I wanted to know what was going on inside my eggs. Yes you can candle and see "shadows" but I wanted to see how it really looked. After doing some searching I found 2 sites that gave me all the information I wanted.
Days 1-21 Inside an egg

Day by day

I am glad you enjoy the photos and information. I do not mean to offend anyone with them just some basic knowledge of what a chick goes through from the time we set them until the day they hatch.
