Sally I want to thank you for that article I had a little chucker last summer that got pasty butt and I didnt find it till it was really bad , I got him cleaned up and pooping but a few weeks later I nocitced he had stuff on his butt fethers and his vent looked kinda yucky and he smelled , I gave him bathes and plucked out the feathers taht got rotted from that stuff sitting on them betweens baths but I could not get rid of it , I asked about it but no one knew what it was and he never got better , I ended up giveing him to Uncle dave to put out of his misery as nothing seemed to help and he was such a little skinny fellow it just didnt seem fair to tourture him all the time . Now I know if I see it again what to do .

Awwww I know EXACTLY how that went down! I felt so so bad....

so that was interesting research and surgery and all that and she FINALLY healed and was better from that mess when BAM!
she got this and I searched for DAYS trying to figure out what was wrong! poor girl!!

your very welcome, thats exactly why I saved all my info so at some point I could share and help other people, its scary in chicken health and you never know if someone else is gonna get it and then you have a domino effect! uggggg I STRESSED BIG TIME!

I'm going to kick myself for this...but....Sally...there's a Little Giant with Egg Turner for $85 on the Frederick Md Craigslist....haven't convinced Fiancee that I need it...won't be able to convince him until after this hatch happens and I can return the incubator to RoPo....so...if Penta wants to come down and get it....

Now I understand Brookhavens, I just thought that there might be a way to correct the corresponding numbers on such a thermometer, LOL. I take it you just adjust your readings to what you saw?

Fermenting feed is something I will need to look into. Feed is so expensive!

So excited for lockdown and hatch day!! Also, a few days ago I noticed one of my Blue Laced Red Wyandotte eggs was a DOUBLE YOLKER!! I thought it was a smidge bigger than the others but didn't think anything of it. But I candled and saw TWO in there! It was so funny because it was half way through incubation that I noticed. When I was pregnant with my boys we didn't know there were TWO until halfway through the pregnancy! LOL! We went in to see if the baby was a boy or a girl and they said "Did you know there were two in here?" NO! Anyways, now I am freaking out about them pipping and hatching OK. Do double yolkers usually hatch OK? Or do they normally need assistance at some point? GAAAH!

I don't think they normally survive, however, there is a video on youtube of a lady helping a double chick egg hatch. I don't remember what she said about it, but it would be well worth checking it out. I can't see how both of them might pip into the air sack (unless it's sideways?) I'd do some research, cause it would be kinda cool to get them to hatch!
