Hey late nighters....if you have a few minutes, check out our Grumpiest Bird of 2012 contest. We are in the voting process now and would love to have more BYCers chiming in on who the champion should be. Thanks :)

I thought they all looked so content, ROFL
all my baby silkies were afraid of me but one which is like a zombie. When you looked in the brooder she just looked up.at you with her huge black eyes. mine get friendly when they hit six months
Strangest thing, my Sultans acted completely different tonight. usually they're skittish, but suddenly, they're letting me pet them! I'm amazed!
the bleeding thing is not exactly as serious as most think as there are three main vains if you puncture those then the chick will most likely bleed out unless you tie it. before I knew anything about hatching i tryed to help a duck to early still had a bunch of albumen and was bleeding all over i accedently twisted one of the large veins that was punctured and all bleeding stopped i.was amazed.
Wow, that's interesting!
It looks like I've got some early birds

They are not due until tomorrow but I have little fluffy butts running around in the hatcher... So dang cute!
Yah, mine were early too!
I am so jealous! Come on little birdies do something.
I'm worried sick. No movement or chirps or anything. I only have 3 eggs, 3 little silkie babies.
Don't be worried, you probably had good temps! I thought mine were good, but I think it was usually around 100 and I was trying to aim lower, but the candy thermometer read 100 while the digital one read 99.3....?

2 chicks out
:D
Congratulations!
Y'know...as far as I am concerned, it is still a bit early yet. I have made my best effort to maintain a stable temp and humidity to give me a timely hatch, not a somewhat early one. I believe mine are storing up their energy for a true New Years Day birth! If they were racehorses hatching today, they would already be OLD NEWS after all, eh?

LOL, yes, and it's good yours are going along at the correct pace!
Guess I gotta crank the heat down a notch on the brinsea - I have three chicks already!!! Three little naked necks =).
Me too!
Quick question ... Instead of putting paper towels down over my bator wire, i put that rubber mat stuff that people use in their drawers. Someone recommended it and it sounded like a good idea at the time - the eggs don't roll around as easy and it should provide good footing for the peeps, and it has holes for circulation of air and humidity. Sounds ok, ya? Or, maybe not. It is emitting a really strong rubbery smell and now I'm concerned that this might hurt my hatchlings before or after they hatch (if they hatch). Do you think I should be worried? I didn't think twice about it until my husband said I was probably slowly poisoning them with the rubber mat smell

eek!
Wow, I don't know. I was thinking of getting that stuff too... didn't know it smelled. Is it that shelf liner?

I helped my last chick out, and then eggtopsied my 3rd egg (it died, I think, before lockdown because that last candling I didn't see movement, but was hopeful) The last chick bled a little bit from the navel, but that stopped and it's acting pretty normal. I really hope it makes it because I need a friend for the other one. I think it will though, he's a tough one... a little confused as to which side is the right side to pip, but tough and very cute! One is completely blond, the other has blond and grey. Can't wait to see the start of feathers!

Sorry I don't really know if there's anything else you should do, but I'd check Sally Sunshines guide to helping hatching. It may have something helpful. She has a link to it on the bottom of each of her posts. I'm on my iPad and I can't seem to quote or put up links or anything on this. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Tues. is lockdown for me i have 9 good eggs outta 26 so far. Keep your fingers crossed!! This is my second time hatching and all the first 12 were ruined in the mail before i even got them! When i recieved my second order, the box was on its side in the mail truck, they need to be kept level! All the upside down one (bigger end up) i marked and they WERE the1st ones to go! If anyone has eggs and lives by Il. Wisconsin border, let me know! I,d rather drive and pick up or meet somewhere, myself!
