4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

they all rushed out all excited and quickly started shoving their way back in, except for Nikki lol
That's awesome! I absolutely LOVE that picture!
just regular flour?
can do! can it be frozen? all the flour he have is in the freezer, but i guess it should defrost fast enough.

ETA- i cant believe i spelled flour as flower *facepalm*
Gosh, I dunno about that, seems like lots of bacteria could live in flour, I would let it be and let nature do it's thing, or maybe a dab of antibiotic cream?

hopefully he will be okay!

Yuh, I've had chicks come out with messed up navels, just put a bit of flour on em to stop the bleeding.. that said never had a chick that 'smelled really bad'. I'd still separate that chick out at least for a bit - chicks should not smell bad right out of the egg..
Flour? I've never heard of using flour before. When we nip off dew claws (I don't anymore, but used to) from my puppies or clip a quick while trimming nails, we use corn starch. Works great and came highly recommended by the vet and lots of mentors! I would think flour would become very pasty or dry out like glue after a while.

No more progress with my chick yet - hasn't really opened a hole, just kinda cracked the shell. I've heard a couple weak little chirps, but nothing now for over an hour. I'm trying to be patient. Gonna finish checking this site and facebook, then head down to the mudroom to work on my brooder cabinet. I think I have a gallon of paint somewhere. Brought in the the little guinea pig cage for the first few days as well, but it's terribly dirty so I have to clean it up - all the paint is peeling off the bottom.

flour or corn starch, or a styptic pencil works great.

If you are concerned about bacteria, you had it in the freezer..so no problems, most live bacteria is killed with heat and freezing, next time you can nuke it or bake it and than let it cool.
