4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

So somehow my temp dropped on my bator... and the chick is shivering... I need to fix this, but my brooder is warmed, should I put her in there, or wait? it's almost been an hour, and she's more fluffy now, but not super fluffy. She's climbing all over the other eggs, and knocked my thermometer over.. :/

I personally do. Especially if you see shivering, and you have that brooder nice and warm. I get a towel for the brooder..and snuggle the loner in there by itself to keep it warm, and it feels like it has something up against it like another chick or mom. When you open the bator, throw a wet something in there real fast..a real wet something like a paper towel. Will keep the humidity up. I'll post a pic of what I do with chicks in a towel...looking for one.

I put these in while still a bit wet because I had so many that
still had to hatch, and these were knocking the eggs around
so many had hatched, it was pretty bad..lol..but this is
what I do with the towel..kitchen towel ~ make a circle and it
tends to keep it pretty warm. Put your baby up against the side
of it, and it will be sleepy anyway, enjoying the warmth.

My first egg has pipped!!!! I was dead asleep...I have no idea how but it must have woke me up...something did...I got up, went to the bathroom...got something to drink...I got back into bed..didn't even look inside the incubator..and I heard it...a very faint sound...I questioned whether or not it was real or imagined...

I turned off the noise machine I have next to my door...Normally it is nececarry to keep the sound from carrying throughout the house. I heard it..a peep! I looked inside and there it was...my first egg has a little pip!!!!

Cross your fingers everyone!!!

RavenWood, does your incubator lose that much humidity when you just open it a second? I'm opening mine all the time, but the humidity may drop 10%, but climbs back up within about 30 seconds to a minute. But I have no idea what yours is like???
It's about the same as yours ... but if I put in a bit of water first and let it climb it's okay. I got brave and took 5 chicks out, left the 3 that hatched last. Suddenly everyone decided to take a nap and I thought I'd chilled them all ... then the pipped egg started bobbing and cheeping so it was still alive ... that was about an hour ago now and no more signs of life. I don't know exactly when that one pipped, but it was some time this afternoon so there is still time for me to wait I think. I hope!

Yay Jessiey! I have a blue rooster! Named him Hoss.

He's making progress!
He'll be out in no time now if he isn't already Matt!

Well, I've got my first little one in the bator... It falls asleep like, ever thirty seconds or so...but it took a drink of water, so I'm content (I dipped my finger in the water dish, and it watched, and then I put my finger to it's beak, and she swallowed it down, I did that three or four time until she stuck her own beak in. :D) ... the bator seems quiet... I'm pregnant and have the flu, so I"m off to bed. :)
