looks like you did a fine job of helping! cute chick too!

I just read that a nurse uses her stethoscope to listen for their chicks chirping in the bator and if she needs to pull and candle!! NOW WHY didn't I think of this???? I would look so much better with a stethoscope than my ear shoved against that bator, yet alone being a tad more comfortable!! LOL
Great idea, I think my mom has one.... now to snatch it without her seeing.... (she doesn't need it, not sure where she got it, she let the kids play with it, LOL)

gave up on trying to catch up again. Looks like so much excitement. Many awesome exciting hatches. A few not so good ones and good luck on those that are having difficult hatches. Because I have definitely been there!!! I just found I typed the wrong number for my guess of how many. It was supposed to be 2800 or something but I typed 1800. So stop being amazing hatchers! LOL
Me too, just spent about an hour and a half doing it (feeding everyone in between) LOL, but I am caught up! At least the thread has slowed down to a more manageable speed!
I need help --

I have 2 that are now PEEPing from inside the eggshell (set on time, temp & humidity issues, looks like most of the 22 are dead via candling)

1 Peeped a 4 times last night, 2 are peeping now.

I candled the peepers & I don't see much up in the air cell, when they peep or move it is like a slight rounded bulbish pulsing into the airsack,
that means they are shrink wrapped tight -- RIGHT?

I went ahead and made a tiny hole/pip in egg B, in the airsack end near the buldge I DID NOT BREAK THE MEMBRAIN -- can it get outside air now?
1) Should I break the membrain where I piped for it - I moistened it, it was very dry!

2) I see NO veins in the air sack area, should I make a big enough hole to actually view the chick to see if it really is srink wrapped?

These are now 36 hours LATE , I have only 2 peepers & 1 w/ poss movement that I can see so I need to do whatever it takes to save these 2,
ADVICE **PLEASE**
dabbing a bit of water on the outer membrane will allow you to see veins.... and
If it were me, as long as there is no veining, I would break the membrane where the chick's beak is. Good Luck, I'll be routing for you.
I agree with what Blarney said If you open the air sack and it looks shrinkwrapped, I'd start assisting, putting it back with a wet towel if it starts to bleed at all. My first successful hatch was like that, the ones I got to lived.
I think you need to start a thread for these so I can keep up on them.

I was at our Whole Foods and found eggs there that said free range. None said fertile. How did you find out that they were fertile? Did you have them hold them for you on delivery?

He must be a Kun Fu Chicken! You should name him Caine!

There is a thread, it's the Trader Joe's and Grocery Store eggs one
Well, my Double Yolker didnt hatch
sad.png
I opened it, only one chick inside with 2 yolks stuck together. I think it may have died because it couldnt absorb both yolks, I guess the other wasnt fertile or didnt have a blastoderm on it. It was fully formed though.
Othe than that, I had 24 chicks hatch, I cant remember it thats with or without the 4 pekin ducks. I do still have 3 paint/sizzle eggs from EMRickey in, they where still moving, but didnt look as developed as the others saturday when I candled them.
Awww, I'm sorry!
I cannot be the only one who can't find the "How many eggs hatched" contest. I have looked everywhere.
It's not a thread, but you can guess here https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/contest15
SO... what kind of chicken has a knob on it's forehead, and extra toes?
If it ends up with silky feathers, it'll be pure, other than that, she probably didn't have any but Sultans also can have a knob on their head (but not desirable) and 5 toes, but they're always white, and Houdans as well :)
This morning I found about two dozen chicks, 8 ducklings, and 1 Button chick in the hatcher with more pips and zips! I had to freshen up the water in the hatcher as there was egg shells and fuzz all in the water. Well I'd better get off here and go finish with the animals and start setting up all my brooders.

I'm honored you think my babies are worthy of their own thread! Lol I just might give them one. I knew the eggs were fertile because the carton itself says "Fertile Eggs". It's some kind of weird health food thing. Like they're supposed to have good enzymes or something. I dunno, I just hatch em. :p I confirmed the fertility by opening one and locating the bullseye, then set the rest. I've done it with two batches, and the fertility rate is super high. I don't want to think about how many roos they have in with their hens.

You might have some luck writing to the Whole Foods headquarters and asking if they can send some eggs to your local store. I think some other folks in the Trader Joes thread have done the same thing and gotten eggs shipped to their local store that way (or directed to another close store that did have them).

The price is right, let me tell you! I paid like 3.19, and now I have access to a high production (probably copyrighted) line of commercial egglayers. With my luck they'll all be boys, lol.

This is my first hatch, and I was REALLY nervous about hurting her... so I went SUPER slow... she's not fully separated from the egg shell yet, and she's just kind of relaxing... hard work trying to move when you are all shrink wrapped. :/ She looks to have some red coloring in some of her feathers. :)

I'm glad I gave you a laugh today BlarneyEggs. I'm so sorry your hatch isn't going well. The hatch I had before this one ended really badly, and I know how horrible it feels.

With mine, I opened it enough for them to push out, and left them to decide the right time, and they did :)

Quote: Thank you for the link.

These are not Trader Joes and are brown eggs, so not Leghorns. If they turn out to be RIRs that will breed true and not Hybrids, I might hatch some.

I already hatched Trader Joes Leghorns.

Ya, this little one pretty much is there... she's just not gotten up and walked away yet. :) I don't want to push her, but now that she has the room she needs to hatch, she should be better.... her little head wasn't under her wing when I opened her, she pipped outside the air sac, and got shrink wrapped because my humidity was too low. she pipped before the other two that have hatched.. lol.
