4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

AFAIK,the outer membrane is white and papery looking typically, it's the inner membrane that shrink wraps the chick. I think they need more time to absorb yolk and blood. I'm no expert though, so feel free to ignore.
Ok let me clairify,

The membrane right under the shell that I opened was totally 100% dry, like that old onion skin typewritter paper for those old enough to remember that.

The membrane inside between the chick's body, and the interior of the air cell through which they have poked their beaks (between 10-50% of break protruding through)
is ALSO looking exactly like the other membrane, ie dry white onion skin, except in the case of EggB, the central area I can see is less dry more see through, but has distinctly a red vien running in the middle of it laying on top of the chick (like if the chick had hit that it would have bleed out already). So clearly Egg E needs more time (several hours??).

But in all the cases that inner membrane is totally plastered against what I can see of the chicks (all dark feathers btw) and it looks to me like they can't even wriggle under it, they can move their beaks ever so slightly to chirp a little, but they can't really spin or lift their head to even push through that thin little membrane or tear it farther for what I can tell squinting into the tiny holes I made. I maybe miss judging, this is the first time I've ever seen this...

My concern on time is at least 1 chick peeped about midnight last night - that is 14 hrs ago, & W w/ only 10% of beak through membrane sounded very very weak in its couple of peeps, so if that one internally piped 14 hr ago should I break it out now, or keep waiting??

I cannot be the only one who can't find the "How many eggs hatched" contest. I have looked everywhere.
Didn't this contest end? I hope you can still vote, I don't know where the thread is.
OK, but it's not fully done... it's my assisted hatch little guy... it got shrink wrapped. :/ but I've been helping it for like, three hours... here's what we have so far. :)
Sounds a lot like a Silkie, but egg color looks to dark to my eye, I can't tell from the photo, is the skin black? That is a Silkie trait.
I'm glad I gave you a laugh today BlarneyEggs. I'm so sorry your hatch isn't going well. The hatch I had before this one ended really badly, and I know how horrible it feels.:hugs
Awwww! You are so sweet. I haven't given up hope yet. Missy n FeyRaine's are coming along...maybe....?

Ah, in that case, I'd get your bathroom all steamy and take the egg in there and start moistening the membranes. I get my hand wet and start dripping it on the chick and rubbing the membrane away from the chick.

i forgot to enter how many eggs i hatched!!

can i still say?

Howdy everyone, sorry my stupid 1200$ HP laptop which I purchased in 2010, lost it's boot drive, don't ask how because the only thing I can think of is the BF stuck a SD stick in it and it was corrupt. So I had to wait until he called so I could get on his gaming computer, (maybe I should stick the stick in it haha not really funny) Well I'm working on getting the contests buttoned down and putting the winners on the main contest thread. There are some still needing some votes here are the links
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/733230/voting-for-the-nyd-hatchalong-flapper-contest (closes midnight jan 4)
https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/732753/nydh-contest-9-egg-art-contest-voting-here/10 (I'm closing this at 5pm EST Jan. 2 today, so if you haven't voted do so now)
These too I know for sure are still taking votes, I'm still looking into the others, trying to get answers sorry.
Michele
