4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Right now it is raining and 43 degrees. Not complaining we need the rain. Very badly. Had a drought here this year. Alot of ponds dried up and people either had to lower their wells or drill new ones. Thank God I did not have to. Lucky mine is deeper than most in our area. How is the weather in Cali?
Good for the deep well, drought can be scary. We had quite a bit of rain last month, so our reservoirs are getting topped off. Mornings have been frosty, but warming nicely with the sun, so can't complain.

I would trade either of you.... it's -8 here right now... :/ and DRY DRY DRY... I need moisture in the air!
Brrrrrrrrrrrr Do you run a humidifier in the house? I lived most of my live in the east, but when I moved to CA, I found the dry air troublesome. Been here now 18 yrs, so I think I've adjusted. lol

Bad news / Good news

Bad news - Egg E died
Was very odd b/c I had switched out the hot wet paper towel tents 20 mins earlier and thought all 3 were still acting robust, good strong peeps when I moved them.
Then 20 min. later I heard that high pitched distress peep chicks make, reached in to move the paper towel a little so I could view E, saw an exhail & beak drooped but I just thought sleeping,
I picked it up to see and realized there was no in breath, it had simply died right then. I pulled the shell off - ALL the yolk was absorbed, no sign of it at all, & looked like basically all the vein blood also. Now here is the odd thing I've never heard about - when I flipped the dead chick out of the shell, a tiny drop of GREEN "poop" exited its butt, does green mean infection? it did not smell at all.

Egg B is pushing out of the little bit of shell & membrane & towel tent - it is pretty weak, no were near able to stand.

Egg W is still breathing, but not even trying to exit ...

GOOD NEWS - Egg L (a dark maran x maran) made a faint peep - this egg was 4 inches from the egg that was 103.4 degrees right b/f the bator falling incident.
& I'm doing nothing but watching to see if it will pip externally on its own sometime in the next 24-36...

Green is normal for the chicks first poops.

I've got a humidifier going, and a pot of water boiling, and we leave the door to the shower open and let that go through the house... it's still dry dry dry.... I have a very large house with a lot of open space and vaulted ceilings... I actually have a wet flat cloth diaper over my face, so I'm breathing in more humidity than the air has... granted I've got the flu, and am pregnant, so I can't DO a lot about it right now.. I've been hanging with the chicks extra because that room is warmer and more humid. :p

400
my first chick ever Yayyyyyy.
