4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

What I have noticed is Marans hatch more roos then hems, however. And the eggs are not the easiest to hatch on FCBM's.
make sure to do your research, have room, and socalize the heck out of those chicks. they get REALLY REALLY big and fast.
This is the strangest thing (at least to my novice mind). I STILL have eggs pipping...Is it unusual to have a close to five day staggered hatch?
Your others were late too though Matt, save for a couple earlys ... I wonder if your temps were low?
Dear Hatchers and Non Hatchers,
I just wanted to THANK all of you for making the 4th Annual NYD a success. As you probably know, this was the first time any of my team or I led a hatch and then to lead one of this size was overwhelming.
I found as we were getting closer to the hatch date, it was more difficult to remain caught up. There was frustration felt by some of you that my team and I were not answering questions posted in the thread. It had been requested numerous time to PM with questions but I fear those requests were also lost in the thread.
My team had everything set up and ready to roll on Dec 10. At this time, there were requests from higher ups to change stuff. This caused a ton of stress for my team. There were many times that some of us were ready to throw in the towel.
Each of us on my team have had personal issues pop up. As a result, it became more difficult to devote the time needed to the 4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long. Reading criticism of our running of the hatch added to our personal burdens. I value constructive criticism, especially when solutions/offers to help are given.
I truly value all of you and am glad that you all participated. Please bear with us as we wrap up the contests. At that time I will have made my final decision as to if I will host another hatch or not. After the events of Dec 10, I told higher ups that I would not host another, but decisions can be changed. I do know some of my team will not be continuing for another hatch. I will make my decision soon enough to be able to give somebody else plenty of time to get things organized.
Thank you all for making this a great SUCCESS!

It's hard to run a contest with this volume of participants and of course everyone has a personal life to attend to as well. I think, given the nature of such things, ya'll did a pretty darn good job - and thanks to those who contributed prizes and tried to run contests too! Are you taking suggestions from the peanut gallery for the next one (if there is one)? If so, I have a few (surprise)!

While it was terribly difficult to keep up on the main thread, it was a cool to see such wonderful involvement and read everyone's experiences, etc.

I think you all have done an amazing job and I can't fathom how you managed to find enough hours in the day and night but this has been one of the most pleasurable expriences I have had on an Internet site and the memories of my first BYC NYD Hatch Along will stay with me always. Thanks so much!!! matt

There are crazies in all groups, I think PETA's main misson of people not killing or abuseing animals is a good one but some people take it way to far. That being said , unless they have changed the rules its not a good idea to talk about that peticular group on here as it just stirs up nasty comments and usually gets a post locked or what not , We shouls carry on talking about other things.

I actually am a little embearassed about this as I clearly inadvertantly broke the rule of not opening the incubator...but...since today is five days after the hatch began I decided to do the water test. I took an egg out and put it in the water...I couldn't tell for the life of me with any certainty if there was bobbing or not. I decided I should come back to egg #1 and went on and grabbed egg #2.

Not wanting to allow my nerves to get the best of me I nonchalantly grabbed the 2nd egg...I looked at it for a second, kind of shook it in my hand (not too hard but just enough to sort of gauge the weight I guess for no reason in particular) and knowing nothing of how it should feel I went on to put it up next to my ear...

A piercing Chirp rang into my ear!!!- I swear I think I almost tossed the egg into the air as I was taken back with fright!!!

Another lesson (which I guess I probably will never learn but nonetheless offer as advice to those of you with the normal amount of self control...PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE AND DON"T GIVE UP ON THE EGGS>>>ESPECIALLY IF THEY HAVE A HOLE THE SIZE OF A PENNY ON THE BOTTOM SIDE!!!!
