4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Because it add nutrients the chickens will at first eat more than normal. Than they will get to a point the body will get all they need and will adjust. It takes a good solid week even two. Then they will taper off and eat very little. unless you have breeds of birds that do not stop eating..like Orpingtons and Cornish (I have both)

OK...question on the fermenting: Are 2 buckets (1 inside with holes) absolutely necessary. I saw someone on the frementing thread using a plastic trashcan with no other bucket inside or anything. Can the feed be done in a single bucket & strained out with a strainer & do you remove all the feed each time or just what you want to use & add more to the mix each time you remove some.

If you are using just mash, and no grains I dont see why you have to use two buckets. I use one for the chicks. They don't get grains

as a suggestion for any one going to start FF

take pictures of your birds before and after two months

even if your birds are in great shape..you will notice a difference

I wanna win the eggs..I so love Greenfire i wish I could afford the chicks on thier website.

Sally..did you win any of there eggs? or chicks?

I was waiting for them to finish up, before I start asking again through PM's again but I am not sure why they arent closing it all up. So I am clueless to anything. And waiting too.

Especially this time of year..many birds have a dryer looking comb and feathers look a bit dull..Ff with shine them right up. Things like gleet, mites, lice or sour crop will be less likely to happen in the now healthier birds.
You can toss in Oregano and garlic too.
