I think it is because that is the way they lay in the nest and they do not read anything to know better. I just got ten eggs packed very carefully and on their side.

Still hoping for the best!
we are doing an egg test on the diary notes thread.... yall can try this with an egg and realize that its NOT rough handling that does the eggs in.... its the position and constant shaking onboard..... everyone is PM'ing me their results and when I have enough we will open for discussion over there in the thread.....

here is what we are testing.......... this is a paste, its pretty amazing so go ahead and try it, you can always eat the egg too! LOL

DO THIS IN THE DARK, its all about the candle results............

STEP ONE ~ Get a few days old egg, 3-4 is fine, make sure its not frozen like mine lol......yes you can use bought eggs, but the air cell wont be the same size as shipped but if its your only option, have at it.... results will vary for store eggs and I am assuming BIG TIME.....but we can add it noting the difference.
STEP TWO ~ Candle the egg and if you can see an air cell, mark it with pencil
STEP THREE ~ Shake the egg for just a little
STEP FOUR ~ Candle and note if air cell changed
STEP FIVE ~ REPEAT step three and four UNTIL you have a rolling air cell
STEP SIX ~ SEND ME A PM OF YOUR FINDINGS in much detail, what breed, how many times shook, how much you laughed and a pic of your original air cell marking (so we can compare sizes)

When I have most of our results I will copy and paste them for everyone to discuss openly, I have a pretty good idea of what everyone is doing SO VERY WRONG when shipping eggs! Lets see if we all agree in the end......

GOT IT???

Hurley. That are so darn cute!!!.have you guessed sex yet?

Sally, your kids and ducks are so cute..and so big. Ducks grow so fast.

I sure would be interested in those results Sally..all these wonderful experiments.

Here are labels, lightness as a chick marked light/medium/dark, sexes guessed based on feather sexing at 1 day, but looking pretty true at this point. Time will tell. The light ones, so far, seem to have visible lacing already coming in.

How about trying eggs upright and eggs sideways and compare? They'll both be shaken up, better to test both ways, otherwise you're just scrambling your eggs for breakfast.
