I signed up - but I'm still not sure if I can participate or not. We order our hatching eggs when we do get them, and there's no telling if the two breeds I want will actually be laying come December 6th (when they'd have to be sent in order to set them in time)...so it's tricky. I'm still hopeful though

Thank you everyone. Not the first time but this time they went throug 6' chicken wire and 2 strands of electric. Weak spot was the gate; it's just a bit shorter than the fence and i think thats how they got in. Out working on it now, just taking a breakfast break. an update the three injured chickens and two out of three injured ducks made it through the night. they are not out of the woods yet but a couple have drank some water and the roo even ate a little bit.

Thank you; four birds are looking much better this evening, at least moving a bit and eating and drinking on their own. The jury is still out on the pullet with puncture wounds on top of her head; they might have got her brain; I have decided to give her until Sat morning and if she is not perking up at least a little bit I will put her down. In the meantime I'm looking for layers and hatching eggs.

I'm so sorry, I would be devistated if I lost my birds that way. Our dogs would eat our chickens at any chance they get, so we had to dog proof our coops from the start.

dogs can be so strange... i have read a lot of post about people with dogs that are 'chicken hungry'. My dog couldn't be more different she loves my chickens. She doesn't both the free ranging hens, she will come into the pens will me and just sit there while the chickens mill around. We even have pictures of the chicks sitting on her back with they were little. She is a 2 year old yellow lab, i guess we just lucked outt
