4th of July hatch along!

I don't show my birds, I'm not in town enough for that. And the whole "fell" eggs thing is an autocorrect accident that i didnt notice. I meant CCLB eggs, and I got them both from ebay, but the legbar eggs are from greenfire farms stock. Which is exciting!

Wow! For a moment there I thought we may have found the "Golden Egg!" I'm guessing CCLB is Crested Cream Leg Bar. Greenfire farms in Midway, FL? Awsome. Do you normally purchase hatching eggs on ebay? I've been hatching eggs as a hobby for a couple ah three years. I bought 6 'day old' chicks form Tractor Supply back in 2016. I had no idea what I was doing or what I was buying. All I knew was "I'll take 3 yellow ones and 3 black ones, oh they are so cute." I didn't know any thing about straight run, pullet, cockerel... Show birds, Bantam, Dual purpose, heritage breed, none of that stuff. So with book in hand and poultry sites like this great one, I learned a lot. Perhaps this is not the place to discuss all that. Back to July Hatch - A - Long. I set 20 eggs this afternoon, a mix of Rhode Island Red, Plymouth Barred Rock & Black Star. My last hatch was June 5th the hatch rate was 22% - not too swinging. Lots of room for improvement. The majority of my hens are less than a year old. I'm expecting a higher hatch percentage as my hens mature a bit more. Happy Hatch-A-Long!

I just peeked at my welsh Harlequin eggs. So far at day 4 it looks like 4 might be developing out of the eight. I had to toss one already it had a huge black spot in it and smelled horrible.
Sorry for your loss. Speaking of smelling horrible, are you familiar with balout? Actually I don't remember it selling too bad but the taste and texture... Not my cup of tea, thank you. I set 20 eggs this afternoon, a mix of Rhode Island Red, Plymouth Barred Rock & Black Star. Happy hatching!

wow thats a funny story! Good luck with your new hatch!

I am at it again already, but no
Silkies this time! Just stuck 1 Lavender orp, 1 Ameraucana/Maran, 4?? Eggs in this morning. We’ll see if they are fertilized in a few days, I guess.

I also picked up 12 Serama eggs today. Those will go in tonight.

Next week I will receive the eggs I bought from a byc’er. A mixed dozen of silver double laced barnvelder, black/blue/splash Isbar, and Pyncheon eggs.

The first batch of eggs will hatch around the July 2nd/3rd.
Welcome aboard. I'm excited for you - quite the variety - Best wishes.
For me lockdown is June 29 - come the first week of July I'll be tendeing to 20 newly hatched Hens!

I have a broody Welsh harlequin sitting on some eggs due July 5. I candled them today and had 1 that hadn't developed, 1 with some cracking and black spots that smelled and one with a blood ring. I'm excited for these to hatch, they came to me from Quacky Acres. My Drake has been a real pain in the butt lately so I'm hoping to replace him with one of these.
