4wk old chick wierd hip

It would have to be returned to the socket and then a way to wrap so that you're hugging the hips together so to speak until the ligaments hopefully tighten up again. In other animals, the longer it's out of socket the less like it is to stay once it's repositioned correctly. I'm not sure how you'd wrap a chick without interfering with defecating.
Thanks Sunrise Superman you've given me more information in this short time than I've been able to get in 3wks.

Hi, Keanu1 :frow, welcome to the community. If you have introduced yourself in the New Members forum I must have missed it, so I will howdy at you here. I'm sorry about your chicken. Afraid I can't offer anything helpful or constructive, but I can offer my well wishes and hope you get some good answers here. Let me tag @Cyprus and @Eggcessive, perhaps they can help.

Hey Big Blue Hen, thank you heaps for your message. Funny cause Eggcessive has already been in touch. I really appreciate everyone's efforts. My boy is the most beautiful little soul and I'll try everything I can.

Thanks for tagging me.

Yes, the bird has a dislocated hip. From what I can see of the tissue, there may be scar tissue. Given the young age of this bird and the rapid growth typical of chickens, I would assume that even if the bone could be slid back into the socket, the femur may have already grown too long or malformed to hold in place well.

That said, go ahead and give it a shot. Move the leg in the normal range of motion until you feel a definite pop - that's the relocation of the bone. Then take some vetwrap and wrap his hips semi loosely to try to keep the hip in place.

Thanks heaps for answering. He's comfortable and sleeping now so I'll try that tomorrow if no good I'll take him back to the vet and get him to do it. Thank you so much for your advice. Ive been trying to get my baby fixed since he was a week old. All you people rock. Seriously XX

Hey Big Blue Hen,
Sorry I didn't do the introduction page.
I'm from Melbourne Australia and have worked with chickens heaps but never had any of my own. My rooster Mick turned up on my property one day and looked a bit beat up and wouldn't go so he stayed. Thought he might get lonely so I got him 4 girls to keep him company. Well about 4mths later a couple of the girls got clucky and had 4 chicks. 1 died, Smokey & Janis Joplin are doing awesome and then there's Bandit with the funky leg. I really appreciate everyone's help here. Can't thank you all enough.

Cool, that's a great intro! Clearly, you are chick-chosen! Good luck with that leg. And I dig those names.
