5 day old sick baby goose.

Just crumble. I tried to water it down for him in a little bowl but no luck. I shouldn't say that he is not eating because I'm not 100% sure. I work all day but I do come home during my lunch and check on him. His little buddy that he has in the nursery with him, well I haven't seen him eat either. The chick is full of energy and the goose about 40%. I'm still not sure if he will make it but I would have thought he would have died over this past weekend.

Haunted55~ Did you notice in picture three how he is carrying his wings? He moves them up and down but never close to his body. They always hang down like arms.

If he was clicking before he hatched he couldve gotten a little of his own yolk in his lungs. when it dries it gets very hard and crunchy, and in the lungs its like thick wet goo. Kinda like if a baby bird were to get asthma, makes it hard for air to exchange. I have this happen a lot with my chicks and ducklings that hatch upside down in their shells or pip through the sides. since its getting better and he's drinking you should be alright. if it happens again, you can hold their head over some steam (not too hot!) and let them breathe it in. It helps loosen up any gunk they may have in there and they should be able to peep afterwards.

After I got home from work today and headed to Tractor Supply to get meds for a chicken that was attacked by the dog from down the street, my husband called me and said that Baby Goose died. Poor little guy. I guess it was time for him to go to heaven so that my newly injured polish bantam could have a safe, quiet and warm place to recover. Rest in peace, Baby Goose.

This baby did start pipping at the bottom of the egg instead of the top. I just wonder if that is what happened. I guess we live and we learn. Thank you for posting that. Much appreciated.

It's pretty likely if that's how he hatched. im sorry you lost him. But steam is a neat little trick for babies that get yolk in their airway. if it happens again, you can jump on it we cant save them all but we give them our best.

Thanks for your support. It is greatly appreciated. I have another goose that is supposed to hatch around July 16th. The only one out of 6, so I put 3 chicken eggs in there with it and they are all growing great so far. Maybe I will have better luck this next time and I have a little more knowledge under my belt. Can I ask a question? How are you incubating the eggs? Hand turning or do you have a turner? Before you are putting them into the 'bator, are you holding them for a few days?
